Gotta get a good shot of holly and her chick. She plays babysitter for Heidi to ;)

I am looking for a couple Lemon Blues. I think the color is gorgeous and I am in love with the breed both standard and bantam. I have a Gold Laced what I thought to be standard but its 6 weeks old and about the same size as my 3 week old Partridge Silkie baby.

So I am guessing that he is a bantam.

I haven't posted in a while. But I have an issue.

My beautiful Black Cochin rooster is not fertilizing my hens eggs. I have 2 straight feathered and 1 frizzle in with him. All 3 hens were sitting on about 1 and half dozen Cochin eggs. Well, after 10 to 15 days, NONE were forming. I have switched all their eggs with Turkey and Duck eggs. :(

I am thinking he is either:

A.) Unfertile
B.) Doesn't know how to breed them.
C.) His butt feathers are getting in the way.

Any ideas? I have never seen him breed them. He is about 1/2 to 1 year old. Maybe it could be the hens? I have no idea. I figured this was the best forum to ask.

I would clip him ( butt feathers) and the girls...start checking the eggs fertility every couple days by opening them... I have had a gorgeous albeit sterile roo. He became a farm pet....then sent to live with some else...who didn't care as he was a " good" roo....just shot blanks.

Watch ... Sit in the pen...if the girls avoid him...or if you do get to see him mate...do the hens expel his gift? They can do that ..meaning they don't like him ... I have seen it more than once( 200 hundred or so birds now) we used to have 350. Watch some chicken tv...sit in a chair I. The pen and observe. You will often see the problem.

The answer is C more than likely. Pluck or clip feathers around the vent and then the feathers below his vent so that when he mounts a hen the feathers do not block fertilization. On hens you pluck/clip around the vent and up. Press on the cushion to see if him mounting her will cause feathers to block fertilization. If they do pluc more. Many more feathers have to come off of hens than males. My frizzle feathers curl out of the way and I never clip those
