Thanks everyone! I appreciate the help.

I do love these little guys...super friendly!

i guess i could use some opinions on how 2 of my bantam cochins are developing and possible gender. i've been hoping both are pullets but the combs are throwing me from that presumption.
Moxie the barred. not a great pic of the head but you can see that the comb is slightly pink but not red yet. s/he is about 7 weeks old.

and Maven the red frizzle who is about 5 weeks old now. his/her comb has been yellow so far.

and the whole group of chicks i got on the same day a few weeks ago. the salmon girl is an ee and i'm thinking the blue hiding behind Maven is an EE/cochin cross even though i was told it was a cochin (comb tells me otherwise right now) you can see Moxie's comb color a little better in this one.

here's hoping that is correct! Shay told be the little frizzled red was a pullet when it was a week old but i keep second guessing it! the barred was from Darbella and we were guessing and figured that it was the smaller of the 2 she had and i've noticed that the smaller chick in a hatch is usually the one that is a pullet.

Oh, she's gorgeous!

Dirty Blonde - Most of my Columbians are too light, or they have extra black "peppering" where they shouldn't. I still think they're all pretty, and I love them all to death. Don't stress about the patterns too much - if you're planning on showing them, I've found there isn't too much competition in the smaller shows here in WI anyways.

Do you guys think these little girls are bantams? They're supposedly 12 weeks now and WAAAAY tinier than my 16 week Australorps. The Australorps can easily look over the tops of those wooden boxes. Sorry it's fuzzy- the humidity was fogging my camera and it was taking forever to clear up! The wall of boxes/bags/etc is because these girls are little houdinis! I say "girl" but the one in front seems like she might be a he. That would be funny since I told the guy I wanted standards and I wanted pullets- I suspect he sold me bantams and possibly one rooster. Ah well- too late now, I'm completely attached to them!

Eh- I didn't mind so much that he sold me bantams instead of standards even though it seems like a pretty odd "mistake" (this was from a local hatchery) but the rooster bit bothers me since I JUST got rid of a particularly nasty Australorp roo and swore I wouldn't have another one anytime soon. I should have looked them over as soon as I got them but it was a HOT, HOT over 100 degree day and I was just trying to get them into the car and the air conditioning as soon as possible so I left them in their box since it was still sort of cool. Dumb on my part. Oh well, I hope at least they'll be nice if they are roosters!

i was thinking they might be (and the white cochin too), but now (i'm at 6 weeks old this weekend) my #1 above roo looks SO much more like a roo that i am doubting any of the others are! maybe it's just how i photographed them. but in person their combs are so much smaller and so not-red that i am thinking i might have 5 pullets? maybe my sweet boy is just fast developing and the rest are slowpokes, but that is what i am thinking. i will put more photos up of them as i get more good ones for further opinion. maybe i will get some more this weekend.

thanks for your opinion!

I will keep my fingers crossed for you! The chicks I have now are 2 wks and come from 3 different places- they are all maturing at different speeds. It is hard to tell what I have. I hope they will come along in the next week or so!

thanks!

this is the ONLY cochin that looks like this so far.. so i am pretty sure the rest are girls. i hope! 6 weeks, and going strong! not a very flattering photo of him, but the best pic i have of his comb none the less.

the one in the front on the right is definitely a keeper. she's just too beautiful! the one on the left is a slw, and im pretty sure a boy. he's kind of bitey though so i am not sure if i'm keeping him or not.

i guess i've been ignoring sophie the fat black frizzle and my roo boy with photos. but at least i have some new photos of the 3 in question. sophie is definitely a girl though... she's just fat and lazy and satisfied with life all the time. i can totally picture her going broody in a snap, and laying LOTS of tiny bantam eggs for me, or whoever she ends up permanently living with. she always "bok bok bok bergock!"s when she is picked up. been like that since her first week. she was the first one to make any noise that sounded more chicken than chick. she's funny.

i already want to hatch more chicks though... i really didn't think much of it when i saw everyone on this site saying they've got a sickness with chickens. now?.... i wish i had listened! i have the feeling having chickens is gonna kill the rest of my social life.. hahahaha.
