I am planning to work on wheaten soon. What colors did you use to develop your wheaten and salmon cochin bantams?

The Wheatens came from Partridge and the Salmon came out the Mille project probably out of Buff Columbian and Mottled.

It came from pure partridge? Or were the partridge birds carrying something else?

Danny, if you have any more leftover partridge birds, send them here!!! lol

Hey everyone! Here are my three cochins we now own, two roosters and a hen. We plan on getting more hens and separating the roosters shortly, right now everything is kosher. I don't want to push it though! I would love some feedback on our birds. We are very new to chickens so any help is appreciated!

i could use some help figuring out gender on my sweet little 4 1/2 month old Moxie. i've been getting mixed signals since she/he has been squatting lately, but also looks to have the pointed roo feathers coming in around the neck and the comb/wattles have been quite reddish pink for some time now. someone has started crowing in my coop and i think i know who it is but i want to eliminate Moxie from the possibilities.

IMHO, Moxie looks like a very sweet pullet to me! I'd look for the crowing culprit elsewhere! And if Sunny is pasing on nice type, I don't think you can ask for much more from a roo!

Good question. I guess they were obviously carrying the wheaten gene but I don't know exactly how it works. Thay did come from a top breeder.
Joanie I don't have any extra partridge right now.

i'm thinking my crowing culprit is my red frizzle bantam Maven with the super long legs. i keep finding it trying to fight with Moxie and Moxie will play along with it and then try to trot away with Maven still chasing. or it could be my cochin x ee Merl that has been very sweet too but also showing those strange roo neck feathers!

i'm hoping it is the frizzle since i've been thinking of re-homing that one due to it's 'funky' attitude. he won't let me handle him without a struggle. and i've been trying to handle him since he was a week old chick with no luck!
