I produced some chicks this year that could possibly be Wheaton. They came from my Mille Fleur breeding program.

I bred Nadia ( one of my MF hens that I purchased as a pullet from Lynne/wwmicasa1 ) to Horace, my red (??) colored Rooster.

Hey guys, I'm in hopes that "Santa" brings me a Standard of Perfection -Standard poultry, until then I have a dumb question with my standard Cochins. I have a Splash rooster and Blue hen, both are nice shape yet I'm questioning the leg colors. Of course the blue has a dark colored legs, the splash has "yellow" legs (very pale).

In the book of stnadards, what color should the standard cochin's legs be? I will post pictures at a later time. The offspring has come up with some odd looking legs and feather patterns that will lead to culling (giving away or selling). From dark skin, pink toes, feathers down to the ankles, feathers on tips of middle toes and nothing on outside toes, well you understand...we have all seen it. Also, some of these chicks are cropping up with buff colors! Ugh. Looks like I have a barn yard mutt parents that I carefully picked for being a handsome specimens....

They are beautiful! I like your pictures, spreading out their wings, gives you a good view of the colors.

Foot and leg color for all Cochins is yellow to dusky or swarthy yellow. Pure yellow legs on a Black or Blue Cochin is tough to get, and invariably if you do have nice yellow shanks, you'll have issues with white undercolor. Pullets tend to have darker legs than the males, but you at least want to have yellow on the bottom of the feet of Black or Blue birds. The dark shanks would be considered a defect, but from a breeding perspective tough to get away from without losing something somewhere else. With White, Buff, Splash, Barred, etc, they should have yellow legs.
