I'm not PLANNING on showing. If I don't have anything else planned, I may hit a few shows to observe but no definite plans at this time. Don't have any pictures as of yet. They're a "work in progress" and won't be sitting on champions row anytime soon. I like challenges. My breed of dairy goat, 20 years ago when I got started, was pretty much the laughing stock of the dairy goat world. Over the last 20 years. breeders have worked with the breed to the point where they are competitive at the Best In Show level so I do have patience. (And a belly full of goat from those that didn't turn out! <G>)
I use to show almost every weekend against the Salilyn dogs. Julia was a very sweet woman. I got along great with their handler/kennel manager but certainly not a nice person if you crossed her! I always thought she and Julia made an interesting pair as they were opposites on many fronts. (Watched one of the televised dog show and saw the handler was still handling!) I "googled" and Julia died in 1999. She was not a young woman when we were active in dogs in the 80's. Just read where Dorothy Nickles died last year. I swear the woman was pushing 90 when I showed dogs. Saw her on one of the televised shows awhile ago and she hadn't changed a bit except maybe a bit less facial movement.
Don't miss the cut-throatness of the dog-show world at all. While it exists in goats, it isn't nearly as prevelent and many of the goat shows are like a big picnic/get-together where we also show goats. I'm sure there are those that cuss the winners under their breath, but most are very congratulatory towards the winners.
