Cochin Thread!!!

Mr. Ree :

Tom,
I just had a quick question, I know that a few years ago there was an all Cochins show in Tn. Sadly, I couldnt make that one but, was curious as if there was going to be another, or if one was in the works or something? I would love to attend an all Cochins show(as I am sure alot of other people would as well), and was hoping I might get that chance again. Just wondering if this is something to look forward to, or if it is to happen again. Thanks.

~Casey

We should have an All-Cochin day like they do in Europe every year. I think it's in September. But it would be great if it were more centrally located in the middle of the US - equal distance from each coast.

I have a trio of buff barred bantams I'm going to let go of. I thought I would have the time and room for them, but sadly I don't. I'm going to double breed the partridge cochins and that is going to take up a lot more room than I anticipated.

Nancy, I hate to see you let the Buff Barred go, but I'm really a lot happier to see you focusing on the Partridge!!! I know you're going to do a great job with the Partridge, and give them the attention they deserve!

I was in the exact same place when I let my Columbians go so I could concentrate on the GL's. I would much rather dedicate 100% of my efforts to one variety than 50% to 2 different varieites.

Don't you just hate it when Common Sense seems to dictate our priorities!

Yup, I wish some common sense had step up before I searched high and low for these little guys and went through all the trouble of finding and buying them, and kept them all the way through the winter. Oh well, that's the way it goes. I am very pleased with my partridge group. I've been studying them, trying to decide who should be with whom and this is going to be a challenge. I've only got one hen that has really deep, rich mahogany color in her hackles, the others are a little on the light side.
I'll keep you posted

I've seen pictures somewhere. I think they are very, very rare. Maybe it was Jamie Matts???? (He has some great birds). Someone else might be able to tell you for sure.

Do you know there is a Cochin breeders guide? Coopa started it a few months ago. There are 4 breeders listed for Columbians. There is also listings for Standards. I am one of breeders listed but only have pairs available, no chicks or eggs.
