I got 16 LF Cochin eggs from Sands Poultry on Ebay and for my one and only hatch I hatched out 8 of the sweetest Cochin babies last July. I adore these guys. It's looking like I ended up with 6 pullets and 2 roos. I love this breed! Here's one of the little splash boys (or is it a pullet?)

That'd be awesome, then I'd have 1 roo & 7 pullets out of the hatch. I'll have to buy from that seller again

My daughter and I bought a pair of Partridge bantam cochins today to go with the pullet we hatched out this spring. I think our previous pullet is the better looking of the two girls, but the little roo is cute. These are the breed she picked out for her 4-H project. I would love to hear what you all think of them.

This is our first pullet, Chippy, because she had the chipmunk pattern when little. She hatched in January.

These are the new pair we bought today, Loretta and Coach Chin.

Are there two recognized colors of partridge cochin? The breeder kept referring to some as red gold, but they had the same partridge pattern as our hen, just lighter and less defined. I know my pic isn't the best, it is cool and drizzy today and the lens of my camera fogged up and dulled the colors a bit. We are new to the world of pure bred/ show chickens and I am not finding much info on partridge cochins on the web. Thanks everyone.

I'm no expert, and I'm sure that others with more experience than myself will chip in here, but I definitely think your older pullet is better quality. I think she could definitely compete in a 4-H show, especially if kept in good condition.

I'm not so sure about the new pair. The color on the hen doesn't look quite right to me, but then maybe there is something I don't know. Also, they are not as nice in type as the first one. I wish your daughter good luck. I was in 4-H and my kids showed poultry, too. I'm hoping to be able to get more kids started around here. I think it's a great program for kids.

I have a question for the forum--I have gold laced cochins which do not make the grade as far as weight for the standard size cochin birds. All 3 hens are 7 lbs or a little less. It has been suggested to me these are bantams but aren't bantams 2 lbs? What do you think? Should I get rid of these birds as I raised them to sell chicks and eggs? Thought?

I think the new pullet is younger than our first one, her comb is just starting to pink up a bit. I hope she will look better once she gets in her adult plummage. Chippy changed quite a bit then. My daughter plans to show her pullet for the first time in Nov. We haven't had very many shows around here. I haven't seen any that are just 4-H, so she will be competing against professionals. I will try to get better pics on a prettier day when my lens isn't fogging up.
