mine do the same thing and it doesnt matter how many times they get put inside the coop they want to sit outside. a lot of time in the rain, snow, freezing temps. they don't seem to be bothered and once in a while i DO see them inside but it's rare

Ha ha- he looks just like dad! I love it when the cochins are out- they never cause any trouble. I got 2 new black pullets in the bunch now too.

thecochincoop- the splash girl has red around the neck. Really similar to my splash copper marans- more like a wash though. Maybe I can crop an image.

Wow, cool looking. Who was his mom?
Those Cochins are good flock masters. I raise chicks up in the pen with my one LF pair and Bo is excellent with them. He tolerates the roos until they mess with the girls and he is great to watch over them from predators. I really love the Cochins.
Now I did have to get after 2 bantam Cochin hens yesterday. Cowboy's girls jumped the fence in with the Sizzles and killed 2 of their new chicks. Very unusual for my Cochins to kill any chicks but I guess those were just too weird for living.

And yes, molting is going nuts here! Every morning when I go to let out the chickens I realize how many feathers are all over the barnyard! Who had a pillow fight during the night? Geez!

I usually brood younguns with my mottleds....they have had some 8 weeker mottled cochin kids in with them for while now.....guess they aren't 8 weeks old anymore then

My boys usually leave them alone til the cockerels get annoying as well.

You know what- my cochin house is the one coop where I can always keep broodies and babies in with the adults. There are a few random birds in there too- a faverolle, a leghorn, some d'uccles, but mostly cochins. Nobody ever bothers them. I wish all breeds were so passive.
