I think our hens are too fat, they rarely lay eggs. What feeds are recommended and how much do you feed per hen/rooster? What else can be done to increase fertility?

If your want to increase fertilitty you can pluck feathers to let birds make a bryyrt connection.. If you want increased egg production light of about 14 hours per day will stimulate increased laying. That takes at least 4 weeks before it kicks in. I turn on lights early in the AM and shut them off at 8Am sp birds end their day on natural light. I have found that a low wattage string of LED Christmas lights is enough light to stimulate increased laying.

I feed at least a 16-18% layer mixture. More protein than that actually can lower production and cause reproductive issues. I let my birds self feed. I feed no scratch grains as they are usually too low in protein.
I know the birds love scratch but it is only an occasional treat but not part of their diet.
