Cochin Thread!!!

Here's my recent acquisitions. No idea on parentage so any help on what their color pattern or suggestions on what color roo to use to keep the color or maybe add more buff barring would be appreciated. Thank You

I have a female like this from a Mille Fleur project. I call them smutty buff columbians for lack of a better description.

Nancy, Thanx for posting again over here - so I can drool all over again! I know you said you got them at an auction, but if it were me, I'd probably do what I could to see who put them up. It's very unusual to get, when breeding mixed varieties, even two that look alike. It almost leads me to believe that someone in your area may be working on something new. It's hard to believe that they come from an "accidental" mating. Thank you so much for sharing!

I agree with Gail, these seem to be from someone's project. Besides the color, they have pretty good type, which isnt something you see from just any run of the mill Cochin. Very pretty birds. I also agree with everyone that they seem to have come from a Mille project pen. They both seem similar in color so they could be closely related, sisters or mother/daughter, etc. They also look to have some Columbian or Buff Columbian in them as well, maybe? The one to the left of the shot really shows it in her hackle.

Given the location of where the OP lives, my guess would be that they might have come from Annamay.

I hate to say it because I'm no expert, but the rooster in the back in the first picture looks exactly like my dark brahma. I keep cochins, but when I was new to chickens I purchased a silver laced cochin rooster which turned out to actually be a dark brahma rooster and he looks exactly like yours. What kind of comb does he have? Other than just the similar coloring, brahma have feather on the outsides of their legs and sparce feathers on their feet, like the one in your picture. I linked a picture of what dark brahmas look like from google.

Pretty sure you have 2 roosters and I think they are Cochins. ! personally like the top 1 better but sometimes it is just the picture and ultimately it is your decision what to do.

I have a couple young roos that get like this. It usually goes away after a while. On a side note, and maybe someone else can chime in...I am assuming this is a cochin foot but looks very GREEN?!? Just thought it might be worth mentioning...
