Okay cochins are the prettiest, most wonderful birds. They are super soft and cuddly and unlike feather footers when they stand on your hand/arm it doesn’t hurt. They are very gentle and just amazing birds.

Ah, yes. Bantams! But then the eggs are tiny.

The only purpose would be cuddles, which I can get from my awesome little EE all day every day!

How many eggs?

On season ours our laying an average of six eggs a week (including three second year Cochins). I seriously have more eggs than I can deal with. And only one Cochin hen has gone broody more than once a season. Of course with molt and the shorter days, they have slowed down, but they’ll start again after the Solstice. Ironically, our silkie is the best off season layer we have - diligently producing a decent sized egg six days a week. Making up for her broody summer
