Cockeral maturation and crowing.

Does a cockerel start crowing before he begins mating? or not necessarily? Anyone know for sure?

Mine started crowing at around 6 weeks old. LONG before he started mating.

I had two cockerels for a while. They both started crowing about sixteen weeks but didn't start trying to mount the pullets until about 20 weeks.

The youngest that I had a roo start crowing was at just under one month (yes, ONE month) of age and I'm sure he wasn't mating! Genie

I have had them crow before they mate and mate before they crow. It is anyone's guess. maybe it has to do with the maturity of the females around at the time?

I guess I have a backwards cockerel.He started trying to mate way before he tried to crow.
