Hi everyone! šŸ‘‹

Me and my wife have been keeping chickens for around 8 months now, and they are great! A couple of months ago one of our hens went broody and we decided to let her hatch a couple of eggs.
One of the babies ended up being a cockerel and is currently around 6 weeks old. My question is how long does it take for cockerels to develop their final colours/plumage? Itā€™s almost like he is changing colour every week, not literally changing colour but keeps getting slightly different colours and patterns going on.

Thanks in advance for you help! šŸ˜ŠšŸ”

I'd say it depends on breed, but he'll likely keep getting more colorful for the first full year. Attached are 3 pictures of the same silver wyandotte rooster at about 8 weeks, 20 weeks, and 1 year old.

Thank you for the information, in that case we will watch him change over the next 10 months or so, in anticipation of what he will eventually look like. His father is a lovely looking pure white silkie and the mother is a Dutch bantam, so he is actually a cross breed, which makes it harder to find out what he will look like or how long it will take to fully develop, although you have helped with the second of those two things.
