Hello! I got these chicks from Tractor Supply about a month and a half ago. I have this one black chicken that just looks different than the rest. The comb is larger and more red and also the tail feathers look different than the rest. Also the green coloring is a lot brighter than the other girls. I’m wondering if it’s a cockerel. Any help and input would be appreciated! Thanks!

Jacquie

This is what it looked like as a baby. The black one with white. Also I forgot to mention they are supposed to be Black Sex Links. They look more like Australorps to me but I don’t know.

Based on the fact that the comb is redder and the sheen is already appearing, I would guess a young cockerel. He'll be a beauty when he grows up though! As for breed, I'm not certain. It doesn't look like it has a single comb, which is what australorps have usually, no?
