Okay, you want to know more about barring with sexlinked dilution...I'm still learning about this gene myself, so this is some information I can share.
I might. I'll have to do some digging around to find a good article on it. Certain genes are hard to find to read up on.I'm not familiar with that gene either. Are you able to direct me to a source where I can learn more about it?

Thank you, that's really interesting. It's saying there are actually FOUR alleles at the barring locus, and two of them produce lighter barring than the one we're used to seeing in Barred Rocks. Given that one was found in White Leghorns, which are pretty common, then it may not be reasonable to assume any light-barred bird must be a cockerel. Darn, that was a handy shortcut for gender of mixed-breed birds.
