He's not looking too hot. He is still eating, but I fear that he may not be long for this world. I'll continue treatment so long as he keeps trying to live. If he gives up, I'll end his suffering.

That he most certainly does. I've not seen anything like it before. He eats if I hold him in front of the food. Same with the water. I'm doing this several times a day so he will eat.
