I’ve been following your thread on Salty and just wanted to tell you how sorry I am that you lost him! After having my mom look at him (retired nurse), we decided to end his suffering. Went through the full day of antibiotics, and the top of his head was so distended that the skin had actually become thin and white.
We gave him a clean, swift death. Thank you to everyone who helped, super grateful.
Yep. The birds are back to being locked up for now. The coop/run is rock solid, but the field is not. Oddly, the goshawk does not go after my call ducks. They do stick close to the standards and the geese, though. Perhaps that is why. When a previous poster asked about another roo, I was curious to hear the answer. When you said no, I was stumped too. Hard to know for sure but I agree that the goshawk theory seems possible.
If it suspects an easy meal, it will be back. I am assuming that the attacks have occurred outside of their secure enclosure, so there's no need to say anything about fortifying their space(s).
Thank you. Me too. He was a nice little dude.I’ve been following your thread on Salty and just wanted to tell you how sorry I am that you lost him!
