Code Enforcement at my front door!

No, you're governed by your own codes--be it city or CC&Rs. You are not governed by adjacent HOA CC&Rs or rules.

No, and I think that the fact that you took the time to research and build a nice looking coop speaks well to the fact that you care about your own property value and conditions, and is a strong indicator that your birds will be well cared for. I would anticipate that your ability to get a variance is pretty good. Research that and see what you can find about the history of approving variances for chickens.

I too had this problem. Some cranky, mean spirted, have nothing better to do then cause trouble neighbors called about my chickens. But when the township zoning officer came out he couldn't say a thing about the chickens. So I still have my chickens dispite the no good neighbors but I did have to get rid of my beloved horses. The ordinace where I live states that you can not have any farm animals with the exception of chickens and other fowl. So I lost but also gained .

Thanks for posting the link to the Bellevue couple. I had lost the article! These people live about a mile from me. They have raised chickens on this lot for over 20 years! Someone (the officer) just had to get in their business. Let us do what the founders of our towns have done, provide for our family and enjoy the simple life once again!!
