I had to tell myself to "mitt up" every time I stirred the veg I was stir frying. None of my other pans get hot handles on the stove.

That's why... many years of seasoning. Eventually you don't have to season them anymore. Are yours a family heirloom?I have never had to re season but all of ours are older than 100 years..
