Morning... I am very tired. My dogs kept me up most of the night. 11/15 eggs hatched yesterday. Hoping the remaining will hatch today.

A fourth Serama chick died on Monday. Did not found out what was killing them until yesterday. Coccidis (however it is spelled). The last 2 remaining are a little older and the symptoms are easier to spot. At least I know what it is and am treating them appropriately. I am thankful that they are in a separate brooder and have another month to get cured before going outside. Though I am upset because these chicks I bought and must have already had the parasite.. did not even have them for a month! I frequently clean out the brooder (I like clean brooders and coops.. cleaned daily to every other day) so it was chicks being chicks on how they contracted it.

Sorry about your chicks..seems like any time chickens are in an industrial setting they have something..

Morning all. Pot of Decaf for those who are caffeine challenged like I am.

Put enough sweetener and milk in it and it almost tastes like the real thing!

Congratulations on the hatch, @CapricornFarm.

@Bonkerelli, so sorry about the loss of chicks. Bummer when that happens and you don't know why.

I've lost a few birds to coccidia in the past, Usually once I move them out of the house I can start to have problems. I finally started to use medicated starter on all of my chicks until I weaned them off the starter. Once I wean them off the starter I do regular coccidia treatments until they are a year old. My losses went to 0 with that regimen.

I hate having to use the medicated starter and regular treatments but our soil is so wet in the spring that the coccidia load is probably astronautical.
