Not entirely accurate when sharing sweeping generalizations. For example if there is inflammation, it can actually burn from the acidity akin to touching a hot stove on the inner ear folds of skin. I have tested it on my own skin around wounds over the last decade plus. The pain can be much faster to occur and longer to neutralize than H2O2 on similar skin.
Mixing a “cocktail” of ACV & 2-3 other ingredients can be beneficial- when it’s just a dirty ear.
However, when fresh shiny blood appears when cleaning with cotton swabs & paper towel fragments or “tissue paper” fragments the idea of acid is an extremely horrendous idea.
We are starting a Perscription of steroids today & a special ear wash that has an element designed to remove the “slim armor” from one of the 3 types of bacteria currently present.
This specific breed of K9 has a (sadly) well documented history of this issue. Bear has gotten this at least once a year over the last 6-7 of his 10+ year life. His sister has only gotten it 1-2 times as I recall.
Yes, both get dirty ears. So doe’s Tsyvie our 95% deaf OES. Thankfully he has not gotten it as bad as either of them over the last 7-8 years of his life.
All have been rescues too, so age is an approximate…..
Oh and had a surprise show up at the Vet visit… it had not gotten to burrow into his skin yet. I thought it was a chunk of dirt stuck to his hair….. like the sand burr I had pulled out a few seconds earlier…. Y’all keep and eye out for these nasty nuggets this season!
The Vet sent it off to a friend of hers doing current research on Tics across the US this year….
