We got an air fryer lid for our Instant Pot. We have air fried potatoes a lot, and love them. I've done green beans too. 1-2 tablespoons of oil for the whole batch. Lots of seasonings, like oregano, black pepper, Cajun, garlic. And some onions in with.Potatoes twice a week. Baked, or oven roasted brushed with olive oil and basil/rosemary added.
You're right, it does have a lot of sugar. I make my own, so it is just the fruit, and mostly I do apples. When I want to eat something sweet, I get about half an apple's worth of chunks. Follow that with a big glass of water/tea/coffee, and I do feel fuller. I've used it as a dessert too. It's definitely a portion control food, though.I have to say with all due respect that I disagree with the dried fruit suggestion, Sally. That stuff is loaded with concentrated sugar.
That's the way I make mine. Just apples, cooked down. I love it with cinnamon, but it's easy to put too much in. So I add mine after. The plan is to make no sugar added apple sauce.
Read the book, The Case Against Sugar. I sort of thought about how much sugar was added to everyday foods, like canned soups and salad dressings. But that book was an eye opener. Now it seems it's hard to find a prepared food that doesn't have sugar added. The more I read about occult sugar in food the scarier it got. I didn't realize how much sugar I was eating.
I forgot till just now. A friend of mine cooks her apples with the peel on, the puts it through a food mill. She says her applesauce is nice and thick. I've never done it that way; I've always peeled them first.Just apples, cooked down.
I like cinnamon DH not so much so I just leave it out. Like it chunky too. That's the way I make mine. Just apples, cooked down. I love it with cinnamon, but it's easy to put too much in. So I add mine after.
I have used homemade applesauce as the sweetener for my breakfast cookies.
