Potatoes twice a week. Baked, or oven roasted brushed with olive oil and basil/rosemary added.
We got an air fryer lid for our Instant Pot. We have air fried potatoes a lot, and love them. I've done green beans too. 1-2 tablespoons of oil for the whole batch. Lots of seasonings, like oregano, black pepper, Cajun, garlic. And some onions in with.
I have to say with all due respect that I disagree with the dried fruit suggestion, Sally. That stuff is loaded with concentrated sugar.
You're right, it does have a lot of sugar. I make my own, so it is just the fruit, and mostly I do apples. When I want to eat something sweet, I get about half an apple's worth of chunks. Follow that with a big glass of water/tea/coffee, and I do feel fuller. I've used it as a dessert too. It's definitely a portion control food, though.

Speaking of portion control, one thing that helps me with that is to get my portion out, put it on a plate/in a dish, and PUT AWAY the container of food. And maybe go into the next room.

A lot my what worked for me was using a diversionary tactic. Maybe I'm not confronting the real issue (boredom? depression?), but if it can make that "I want food now!" voice in my head shut up, it's a win in my book.

@microchick, congratulations on reaching your goal! :celebrate

Thanks Sally. I've reached my primary goal. Now trying to hit my secondary goal of 122-120 before I go on maintenance.

I love dehydrated apples but can't eat any dehydrated fruit thanks to my diverticular disease.

We have an orchard with 4 or 5 producing apple trees in it. Going to have a big crop this year. The plan is to make no sugar added apple sauce. Also have an Asian Pear three that has fruit on it so the plan is to make apple sauce and blend in pear sauce.

One of the things I've cut back on is refined sugar. I have a sweet tooth so that is a tough one. The more I read about occult sugar in food the scarier it got. I didn't realize how much sugar I was eating.

I may dehydrate some apples this year for DH. I usually make a few coffee cans full and keep them in the spare fridge. He loves to munch on them.

Thinking back I was eating a lot of what I shouldn't have been eating due to not feeling good. Now I don't get hungry as easily and don't reach for 'comfort foods' as often.

That's the way I make mine. Just apples, cooked down. I love it with cinnamon, but it's easy to put too much in. So I add mine after.

I have used homemade applesauce as the sweetener for my breakfast cookies.

Read the book, The Case Against Sugar. I sort of thought about how much sugar was added to everyday foods, like canned soups and salad dressings. But that book was an eye opener. Now it seems it's hard to find a prepared food that doesn't have sugar added.

I forgot till just now. A friend of mine cooks her apples with the peel on, the puts it through a food mill. She says her applesauce is nice and thick. I've never done it that way; I've always peeled them first.

It just dawned on me: She's getting all the pectin in the skins in her sauce.

Anyone else do it that way?

I like cinnamon DH not so much so I just leave it out. Like it chunky too.

Our apple trees are Arkansas Blacks and Candy Crisps. Also have a yellow delicious. The Blacks are a good keeping apple. Not too sweet. The Crisps are very sweet so they blend well into a killer applesauce.

I've been trying to transition to honey and stevia. No refined sugar unless it's in pre packaged food and yeah, I agree, the amount they use is staggering. I read somewhere to avoid anything that has more than 5 grams of sugar in it. Hard to do now a days.

But I've found that anymore a lot of sugar just upsets my stomach so I try to avoid it.
