My mom’s favorite household chore is ironing. She plans out chunks of time and irons everything from clothes to linens. I like ironing enough, but I hate doing laundry. I’d rather buy new clothes than do my laundry which is a vicious cycle because then I just have more clothes to launder 😩😩😩. I took the day off from work and was planning to get the laundry done after my morning coffee. It’s almost noon, I’m on my third cup of coffee. Amazon Prime has some movies that will be gone after today....

I remember ironing hankies and pillowcases when I was a kid. As an adult I’ve never owned an ironing board. If something needs touching up I’ll put towels on the dining room table. It’s rare though. Men’s shirts for weddings and funerals only.

Take the shirts to the laundry they do a wonderful job.

So do or did you?

Nope. But I marvel at all those old movies where the pajamas have pressed creases in them and are wrinkle free.

Mom had a mangle mounted on a low cabinet on the back porch, so sheets and towels and things went through. Then with the advent of my little sister's inquisitive hands, it disappeared and suddenly we had a newfound chore for earning allowance. If Dad ticked me off, I'd starch his hankies.

Ironing just isn't my thing and told my first husband if he expected nice shirts, take them out to the dry cleaners because I wasn't ironing. Indeed, my MIL would come up and iron.
Flash forward to present day, my new husband (well, married 22 years) was Navy and he's far more proficient at household cleaning and folding than I am.

However, we're out in the country and it's pretty much wash & wear out here. I haven't had to wear a suit w/shirt for a good five years and they do have dust on them in their little corner of the closet. I'll iron a big pile of placemats and cloth napkins on occasion, but only when that hamper gets full and the table setting drawer gets echo-y.

For those of you unfamiliar... Mangles are for sale at Williams-Sonoma...and definitely cheaper used on eBay and Etsy. Who knew?

Yesterday the bus driver took someone home near his house. As a treat he stopped there and brought Gracie( his young tri color collie) out to meet me. She flew up the bus stairs, saw me and rushed over to jump on my lap and give me many puppy kisses. I gave her some myself. What a doll!! Never had a big dog so quite a new treat for me.:love
