Rain is not falling but small river through the garden.
"This week's" atmospheric river rain started ~5am this morning, already at 0.5" at 11 am and supposed to keep going through late tomorrow; a day of respite Friday then the next wave over the weekend.

Had a partly sunny garden day yesterday and the chooks were happily out & about; now just the more determined ones poke their heads out of the covered run to see if it's let up enough for a bit of scratch-and-peck. We're not in a risk zone but our coastal & riverside areas are under flood hazard warnings as all this drains out of the nearby mountains & heads for the sea. Might hazard a walk down to the creek when it lets up to see how high it's running, but not if gusty winds continue -- too much big stuff falls in the woods/across our trails in these conditions!

I was planning a Christmas shopping expedition down in Eureka tomorrow but will assess conditions in the morning. Our one major highway is barely above water level along the edge of Humboldt Bay between here and Eureka, and there are coastal flood advisories in place.

Ah, well, we wanted the hell out of hot, bone-dry Southern Cal and knew what we were moving into! Fortunately the soils around our place soak all this up like a sponge, not even a decent puddle to be found for very long.
