Morning! Cool and rainy here, but a wonderful day! Swearing in my DH to the Manchester Police Department at 10:00am. He is coming from a very small town department so this is a very big exciting career move... wish us luck!

I'm resting at work. Ispent the weekend roofing at a good friends house. We stripped redid the rafters and sheeted the roof. I am toooo old for such hard work I slept so hard and fast when I awakened It was already the next day.
So since I'm in charge I'm in the office pretending to be on an important mission while I rest. Have a great day God Bless!

Morning/afternoon people

Coffee's hot and tasting good this morning. Nothing like a clean pot to make coffee with.... (just joking, it's cleaned all the time), but for some reason it's been good the last couple of pots.

Weather: ugly the last couple of days, sleet/rain and high winds. It looks like it broke last night. Wet but alot calmer outside right now. Lost power yesterday, good thing I make manual coffee grinders. Life was good.......

I tried a new bread recipe. I thought I made the usual 4 loaves, but I can only find 3?

Looks like the dry spell with no eggs might be coming to an end. We are getting a egg every other day. It's funny. little rhubarb won't let Friday and balsam out into the run. He chases them back into the coop, but the all sleep together.

So what time does everyone usually get up? I'm a 5 - 5:30am person.

Off to Glens Falls today to the LARAC.

I get up between 5 - 5:30 almost everyday. Many days, I get up and have to start running right away. I try to check back in at lunch time or in the evening AFTER I get the kids in bed. The problem with that is frequently I am too tired to do more than read today's postings.

I have been busy hatching chicks this week. LOVE IT

when these little ones go to SLEEP. One crazy loud chirping one woke me up at 4:30 this morning!

The last 2 days have been hectic around here, had to take my wife to the emergency room yesterday. She's ok now thankfully. I'm looking forward to cleaning out the chicken house tomorrow and spending time with my chickens. It's gonna be in the low 70's, a nice warm up from the past 2 frosty mornings brrrr.

Cute fuzzy butts, Math Ace!! I love seeing them all sleeping - what all did you end up with?

Yeah, Kaj and Oesdog (where is Oesdog, BTW?), I will try a swap again. I think I'll go to more swaps around here (well, the closest ones are all still at least 1 1/2 hours away) to get to know more of the breeders/ sellers and generate more interest in coming down to Tampa Bay. Seriously - I pointed out the fact that this is the most densly populated county in Florida, and only one little parcel of land (Martin Farms) is zoned to allow roosters! I could have sold two dozen of my Blue Rocks. I had some pretty disapointed potential chicken owners. I even had one neighbor and his daughter just happen to see the sign, come in and learn all about chicken tending, then his daughter came back a few hours later to see if there were any more chicks for sale yet, as they have decided to raise a few, too! The pet store stocks hatchery birds in the spring (where I got my first three), and sells out of them at $7 a chick!!!

Yesterday was a crazy day here at the school. New pregnant girl throwing up in a trashcan in the library. Fight in the hall. One of my students had her child removed at birth by CPS. Still don't know the whole story there, but lord knows I won't advocate for her to get the baby back until I do!!! She barely speaks to me. Hoping today will be calmer.

I usually wake up at 5:45. This morning with the time change I woke up at 5:00, though, and tried to doze a bit before getting up.

Gosh I cannot imagine losing any child at birth!!!!! I would be screaming the walls down by now if someone took my baby away!!! Though I guess there is good reasons for it. I hope the mum gets the help and support she needs to either get the baby back and look after it well or to come to terms with what ever is in the childs best interest at this time. I was getting really really tired with our Dot off loading Jess so much. You guys know I struggled with that a lot. I know she found it so hard being a mum and trying to bond and maintaining the life she wanted ( training for teaching) . In the end I had a really good talk with her. We sorted out her depression a good bit with the help of a really nice Dr and health visitor. Found out in the end appart from the kids being really exhausted because they were not used to having a baby to care for. They were both petrified of hurting her or killing her accidently !!!!!! So weve had to talk through all the things like bathing safely and putting the baby to bed safely etc. Dotty was terrified of cot death - we had to talk that through a lot. Both of them are doing so much better now as parents and growing in confidence. I take Jess two nights a month now. as well as two days a week. So it is rightly cut down. I did feel a bit bad that the main reason why the kids were off loading Jess so much was that they doubted their ability to keep her safe. At least we got to the bottom of it. - The kids are talking of saving up to get married soon and they are talking about having a nother baby in about 3 yrs/ 4 yrs time!!!!! SO that is a big turn around for dotty. It is lovely to see them growing as a family an in confidence as parents. - They already have so much stuff for Jess for christmas!! They really do adore her to bits now and Dotty even says I love you and kisses her and says mummy missed you today and what did you do today jessy? - All very good and positive!!!!! As it should be!!!!!!

I think things were on Dots mind a lot - (In England) my nephews baby boy drowned in a pond in June this year shortly before Naomi and Mark had Jessica. I think that shook them both up more than we thought and certainly affected how they felt they could cope as parents. It was good to be there for them but we did know something was very wrong as they just didn;t seem to want to take full responibility - at least we got to the bottom of it all and they can grow and move on now.

Anyhow as I said I am still here just really exhausted right now.

That's wonderful to hear, Oesdog!! I have wondered how she was doing with motherhood, as you hadn't mentioned too much lately. Sounds like things are really working out for her and her little family. I just a group on crib-death/ SIDS. I try to help them understand it is not to scare them, but to teach them how to best avoid it. Found out one girl has her crib set up with half a dozen pillows and stuffed toys! NO NO NO!!

I do hope your husband gets to feeling better. That must be so difficult. Hang in there.
