Good morning chicken wranglers,
Lots of rain here last night.Spent the wqeekend sleeping to make up for rugged week of travel. I can't wait for a weekend camping trip to relax and drink beer and have fun. That was no vacation, it was all fo5r the kids, and good for them too I might add.
I have rooster that got a string rapped around his foot and it looks bad. All swelled and he has no feeling in it he may lose it . Oh well that is what heppens when you go away and leave someone else to look after your flock.
God Bless!

Thought I.d get on and speak to myself again. It is lonely out here in cyberspace all by myself with coffee and no doughnuts.
I got stopped for speeding on the way to work today, no ticket but a stern warning ,thankyou officer!
Well when I hear from ya'll again. we'll chat. God Bless!

hey! Hi there! been lurking but you sounded sooo lonely. Have a cup for me, will ya? Trying not to drink as much coffee, but I sure feel the urge right now!
ummm, donuts. Does a piece of freshly made candied ginger count? Thought not.
No storm damage here, but down the road had big trees down and on roofs...ugh.

With these LONGER days and nice weather . . . I am just too busy to get cyber time.

Garden is planted and we have been harvesting the spring veg. already - - lettuce, spinach, red cabbage, collards, etc.

I've got warmer stuff planted to and it is doing GREAT. . . There are blossoms on the zucchini and tomatoes and peppers. . .
The grean beans are looking good too. Straight neck squash plants are looking really good. I spotted a watermelon seedling this morning. . . .and planted some more okra.

Been busy hatching chicks and building brooders. Still working on the coops to go with the runs I did in Jan . . .

Just working every minute I can!

I miss being able to sit down and have coffee with ya'll.

I am not ready to plant yet. It was such a treat driving through the greenery on the way to and from florida that it was almost depressing to come home to the bland dark lanscape of Il.I'm still waiting on more calves. Six to be exact and only heaven knows when they will be born. Thanks for checking in and quelling the lonely atmosphere here in cyber coffee land. Ya'll have a great day!

I've been meaning to stop in for coffee for a week now! I was off for Spring break last week, and just mostly did stuff around the house and studies for the big teaching exam, which I take tomorrow. Yikes! I hope I'm ready. I did pass the practice exam for the math, so that was reassuring. I don't need to get an A, just need to pass to keep my job. Thursday we got a lot of rain, but no damage. That storm we had a month or so ago already took out those two trees, so we were not due this time around. It did put a damper on my plans to go to the beach that day, though!
The other thing I did was get ready for my chicken swap, and it was GREAT.

I think some of the vendors wished they had sold more, but we had a great turn out and this is a new thing for St.Pete. Even the newspaper showed up and did a great write up. Here is the link (make sure you click on the photo gallery - the pictures are wonderful):

I ended up with two baby Rouen ducks, two little white doves, and two new male racing pigeons to pair up with the two female ones we already had. I'll post pics of them later. I've really got to get that aviary done now!

The day after the swap the two girls had gone for a longer fly-around than usual when I let out the chickens, and when they came back my favorite one had a hawk-bite on her back. She must have put up quite a fight and flew off fast to escape! She is recovering well, though.

No pigs for me, Math Ace - the farm is full for now.
Have a great day, everyone!

hey, morning! beautiful bright sunrise here (stabbing into my post-migraine eyeballs). this coffee is sooo good. got the real stuff, following by sinus meds - then I'll be rockin'!

I had not thought about the pigeons, although have seen lots of ads in the georgia market bulletin in the area. Survived a hawk attack, wow. hope bird is doing well. Hope you did well on the exams, chics in the sun.

good luck with the calves, karl, may they all drop well.

math ace, you sound like my sis in Phoenix, all bragging about their veggies! And I stare out the window at the newly plowed new plot at 20 x 120 and wonder what have I done? Doc's not letting me pick up a shovel or such for another month (tore a disc, amoung other things). And to prove what a bad idea that is, dug up a boulder....*sigh* brainy I am not. SO, hey, we're gonna do the "no till" and "lasagna" gardening methods! Gonna pick up a roll of hay today, unloading it myself (the famous method of: throw the truck in reverse with the gate down and stop really fast).

Oh, meds! Kick in soon before I bore everyone to death here

Quote:
Clearly the meds have already kicked in considering the unloading method you have chosen.

What is the "lasagna" method of gardening ?

Here is what one of my garden plots looked like a week ago.
