I'm dressed in my Easter best, ready for church. I checked the broody sisters and Sky has a broken egg shell stuck to her underside, one egg outside the nest box, and is wandering around her little area. Sigh....... She had been doing so well since I moved her. Maybe the egg just exploded because it was several weeks old and still just sitting in the heat? Nothing I can do right now, I'll clean her up when I get back. Maybe I'll just give her three eggs to set if she is still broody at all. Poor girl.

I also accidentally let three of the pigeons out while I was getting the broodies set up, and now the young one is lingering around the yard off and on but won't go in the coop, the older male has abandoned his new girlfriend and thier two eggs, and the female that survived the hawk attack probably got sick of him chasing her around when he should have been tending his clutch. I have a feeling he chased her too far and they got lost. Jerk.

Good morning chicken wranglers
and pidgeon folk too"! Sorry you have had trouble with the pidgeons chics.
I have a cow that is down so I know how you feel,I watched her since she had her calf 2 mos. ago she is old and gray and has gotten slower and slower and then started a slight tremor, yesterday I turned the cows out into the rear paddock and she didn't get up. The rest of the herd rushed out into the fresh grass but she just layed there, her little one one refused to leave her all day. I had my BIL come over to help pull her up but alas twas no use she's down for the count. I'll call the rendering plant later today, most likley.
My chickens are nairy as much trouble,The wife even wants to get about a thousand and get an egg contract ,could you imagine that? The young calf will come to the house"basement stall for a week or two for bottle and gentling the harness training.I have 2 cvalves that are tied out on ropes and I want to have a couple more for mowing purposes. Well hoppe ya'll hads a great day on Easter!and a better day today God Bless!

Soggy and wet here in the Gorge. My chickens look a little pathetic standing out in the rain when they could be in there coop warm and dry!! My ducks slept in and are still wandering about their house. Hope everyone has a wonderful day!

I'm sorry, Karl.. I'm assuming you meant the cow you mentioned. What a sad story with the calf and all

I'm actually not that upset about the male pigeon, Charles- he's a player, and dead beat Dad, and I don't need the drama in our coop! I do miss Maddison, the hawk attack survivor. She was really pretty. Since Charles left now Amelia has abandoned her eggs. Apparently she felt too overwhelmed by the prospect of becoming a single mother. We did at least finally get the younger male back into the coop. He was very hungry, poor guy.

I set three eggs under Sky and eight under Ginger. So far Sky still has all three, and has not spent more than 15 minutes off the nest. I had the day off so I was able to keep an eye on them. I also borrowed an incubator, and will be trying my hand at that once the other eggs get here.

Well, had a productive day of sorting and organizing and cleaning the garage and toy bins. Got a bit of work done on the aviary once BF got home early from work, too. Back to work tomorrow. Wish I had just one more day.....

MAth ace - I had to read it again too as I thought the same thing and wondered why Karl lost 63 cows. I thought he must have done a cull for the meat market!!! Until I re read and got it the second time round!

glad it wasn;t 63 !!!!!! Sad for the one though and the poor baby calf left behind.

We have loads of calves and cows in the back paddock behind the house right now. DH says we should move the BBQ nearer the fence ( So he can lassoo one and wont have too far to drag it!!!!!!! ) He is a bad man!!!!!!
