Makes no never mind Math, things can get boring around here when it's cold and rainy.

I posted on CL for hay and straw and one guy wanted more than the CM around the corner for his straw. Only a quarter but like Math said feed prices are up. Egg sales don't help cuz I donate the money. Giving is better than receiving because it lifts the heart.

No hatching going on here. Everyone is getting ready for the snow I think and full up. Too, not to many "real" chicken people here either. Most I think just want yard birds and are not into improving the lot.

Honestly joking aside Jess is doing well starting nursery tomorrow morning

I will miss her here but she is ready. Darcy sounds fab I so wish that they could play together pitty were so far away! Your a great grandad! I am sure little Darcy is very fond of you. Jess keeps running after DH calling his name. She is getting words good now. She says hi and Bye and waves and also knows the colour blue as she can go get a blue lego brick when asked, and touches her mommys nose when asked. Its amazing how fast they grow!

I am not real big on putting my birds in the freezer. I have better things to do with my time than harvest my birds. I would rather post them on CL and sell them.
I clearly specify they are "NOT SHOW QUALITY" and the folks that just want yard birds are very happy to pick up my culls.

It has been off and on sprinkling all day. I am hoping it clears out in the next hour or two... I would like to get some weeding done tonight!

Hello folks. It sounds like you're figuring out a good plan, Math Ace. And sometime in the future I'll get some nice Speckled Sussex from you! I'm kind of in-between a breeder and a backyarder. I like nice looking birds, but if they have something that would make them disqualified from showing, I'll take 'em! I'm learning what to look for in the breeds and enjoy the ones that are nice quality, but since I can't breed and don't show, I'm not supper picky.

We got rain again today. I think it's rained every day for over a week now. That late summer, torrential down-pour rain that we get here. It makes my aviary stink.

I got some from Texas and some from an ebay seller this year. The ones from Texas were suppose to be from show quality stock and the ebay ones were just a fluke. Both are lacking the size factor. SS should be bigger than marans. So, I kept the biggest rooster and the best of the hens in color, size, combs, etc...... HOWEVER, there is a lot of work to do with this stock.

Oesdog - Darcy is doing fine. She does crow like a rooster though and says woof. She's not spoiled by grampa at all. Good Lord you should have seen the presents she got. People are crazy. Truth gramma made the cake and mom decorated it. Gramma also made a bunch of other stuff too. Pulled pork and mac and cheese and a Pesto , tomato , mozzerrellla sub sandwich. She just goes crazy over these things. Nearly used up all my tea bags for iced tea. Lord knows Darcy won't remember any of this.


Math - I try to sell my chickens but no one up here is buying. Today I have a person coming for free hens. Two year olds that aren't happy with the new ones. They've stopped laying and won't come out of the coop for fear of being jumped on.

Rain here today and just yuk. Good excuse to be on the computer all day,

Good morning chicken wranglers,
It is still alittle before noon hear so I can say that.Wish I coul brag about grand kids like you 2 do,mine was over ,he is 3.poor guy busted his lip and was just carrying on. Finally I told him that he had cried so much no one felt sorry for him any more. the sil took him outside to cry after that,Donno iffin I made my point or not !

Now I forgot to tell you about the excitement at the party.

The party went well. Doofus' (SIL) parents stayed for quite awhile. Which is unusual for them. There was lots of food and it looks like the chickens will be getting the leftover mac and cheese.

Darcy got plenty of presents though she was not interested in opening them. The cake tipped over and fell into the potato chips,

and DW set the grill on fire.

Not really but she had put the burgers and hot dogs on and then asked Doofus to watch them. I noticed the smell of something burning and looked and here are flames shooting out from under the hood of the grill.

Fortunately it was not near the house and when I opened the hood it was just the hot dogs which I don't like anyhow but everything on the grill was ruined.

Very funny believe me.


Gotta go DW just called with errands to run for dinner. I get to pick out desert.

It's cold and rainy here. The perfect weather. I don't have to water anything

Outside, at least. And coffee wasn't meant to be consumed by humans. It's a bean that's ground up and pushed thru a filter after it's been roasted and smushed. If this offends you, switch to decaf.
