Coffee's ready...

Good morning chicken wranglers
Sounds like a blast rancher! So is dufus a permanent nickname or only for when he bolixes stuff up?Darct sounds like a great child!
You probably don't understand about my GS he cried for an hour when he arrived for no reason. His other GM just ruined the boy .He is a big panzy if you know what I mean.
Cries at the drop of a pin, even if you cannot hear it.He is just like his father! My dufus,The OGM paid for the kids house so my DD wants her own place so no one can rule her roost so to speak, and OGM is livid. The DD is so set on getting out from under, and prying dufus away from mamma's teet that they are buying at a disadvantage, and no way I can convince her" her mother has spoken, not me" that the house is not a good buy!I had dufus email me the inspection report and there are toooo many repairs that need done.Well my dufus cannot even change a tire, mow the lawn, fix the door, hold a hammer,or anything and this is no exageration. His mom ,the OGM mows for them!
,My DD brought the van to me one day and the hood would not latch,The latch was pushed out of wack because, dufus had to open the hood and he closed it without putting the rod back in the clip were it goes after you are done and need to close it.He lies all the time about everything,
I must stop befor I hemmorage.
We are not to happy about things right now,Hope your dufus is a better person then ours!
Gosh I should not even bring it up now I nust seek absolution for railing and roiling.
God Bless!

Sending you some understanding love Karl

Morning folks,

Rain has stopped for now, thank the Lord. May he send it to Texas and heal their wounds. Amen.

Oesdog - how are things going. I have a favor to ask. Can you do some research on these Orpingtons that Green Fire Farms offers over here? I'm considering ordering some and if you could check things out it would be nice.

If anyone else here has ordered from Green Fire any information would help.

take care everyone, much to do

Rancher

Hi Rancher
Things are as ever hectic here. I am glad you all enjoyed Darcy's party.
Re: Green Fire Farms - I really don;t know anything about them much only what is on the Net. I have never done business with them myself.
I was looking at the Orpingtons Pics they posted. Maybe its just me but the pic looks like my Red speckled Sussex hen??????? Then I popped up the pics of their Sussex just to compare and their Red/brown sussex looks nothing like mine? Actually it looks more like new Hampshire hen to me??? Maybe its just me but I am not entirely convinced unless the pics are mixed up. Their Light Sussex looks like it should I might add. You have a look at the Orpington pic and see what you think. My Bertha is Red Sussex and I think they look very alike????
Here is my Bertha with her chicks - she sat on them until they were 18weeks! She is the big red one!

Oesdog

I just wondered if you could find anything about the UK breeds they offer. They don't mention a laying record on some of the orpingtons they offer and I've never seen the Reds in the Practical Poultry magazine.

The color looks like an SS, BUT the body does not. I went and looks at some of the clips at the bottom of the orp page. A sussex will show its legs.... the body and feathers should not go all the way down to the birds ankles..... and I am describing this very loosely just to convey what I am seeing.

I posted on the what breed to make sure and they are all pretty sure she is a Speckled Sussex. I am not certain of what your seeing???? They said Orps had a bigger body.
I got Bertha from a very good local source so I am hoping she is what I asked for???? Anyhow her boy certainly looked very like all the other Sussex roo boys.

Anyhow I am not sure what you mean by the legs.
Here is Berthas legs

My what great taste you guys have for chicken pretties! All my flock just loves to free range,I would hate to pen them up again, but ti is bound to happen soon because of winter. The preditors get much more dairing when it is cold,
Going to look at 112 acre farm today. It is a hard sell to my wife, she is not interested in taking on a huge debt, but I am doing it anyway"unless she says no!
I am the king of the castle "when she lets me"so what I say goes"if it is okay with her",So just take that all you womens libber's.Ha
Sissy nice to hear from you.
God Bless!

Osedog,

This is the SS ....

This is the opr body . . .

Do you see how the orpington seems to be more of a low rider? The body sits lower on the legs.
Plus, the orpington has more of a ball shape - short back higher tail.... Where the ss is more rectangular.

Do you see the difference?
