Coffee's ready...

no problem at all.
i am not a carpenter at all and found it works best to just start building and throw out the plans lol. Or I over think it.
Fence boards are easy to cut and make nice side to a coop,
I made a pallet based coop for my babies . out of a barefoot tree pallet. others will work similar

Great job, you make it look pretty doable for me. I just might try it myself this summer. Thank you for sharing you pics!

Morning people,
Balmy weather here, sort of makes you want to wear shorts. It's not going to last long, single digits at night by the end of the week.

Nice looking coops Hangtown. You don't have to worry about cold weather were you are? Our coops aren't heated, but well insulated and vented. So far no problems. What kind of birds you have?

Playing in the wood pile today and tomorrow. With family problems last year, I was never able to have enough for this winter, let alone this winter was a tab bit colder then what it has been in the past.

Let's see your chicks when you get them Rngbill.

Enjoy your day

no. it snows here but we do not get real cold.
I raise Penedesenca and empordanesa

Hopefully tomorrow the peeps will come. Met a cross lot neighbor yesterday, He confirmed that L.ville says I can have 6 birds including 1 rooster. He has 12. Hmmmm! When I asked if any were b. orps. he said no just ordinary chickens. upon closer look at his flock they look cross bred to the 12th degree, but they are chickens, I'm now thinking of 9 - 10 peeps. My thoughts on this are that this is the first time with babies, my last flock started out at about 12 - 15 weeks old, I also have 3 and 5 yr old foster grand kids, figure that might account for at least the loss of 3. lol

Will try to do a pic of the brooder later today. I was told to put down paper towels over the wood shaving to begin with. Newspaper being to slick and slippery. any Idea on how long before they can be directly on wood shavings?

Hangtown I agree nice looking job. I kinda wish I could get away with something like that. The past couple of weeks indicate something more substantial needed. also age dictates something higher so I don't have to bend so much to take care of them.

Good morning chicken wranglers
Rngr I always start out with the wood shavings from the day one? I have never had a problem. I make sure there is plenty of water and food. It is still a little cool around here for peeps ,down in the - range twice this week extended forecast looks like 40's and 50's all through March.
That is a swell looking coop .This year I will just use the barn and not any coop. I've found that a chicken run only attracts predators around here.

Rngr I agree on the bending over .This year my lower back has been killing me after a few hours of wood cutting. I was not going to say it out loud but you said it first so I'm safe.
The terrible 2's is nada compaired to the late 50's.
God Bless!

Good morning chicken wranglers,
How is the coffee this morning? I miss getting up and sipping the brew. I just half to prove to myself that I can get by with out it. All too often things that are a pleasure seem to become a necessity.and that is when a guy has to examine his motives. Now do I want it because I like it or is it driving me ? Well I will know soon I am going on my 2cnd Mo without any coffee.
I figure if I cannot go without it it must be a vice and then it is time for me to quit and examine the consequences of doing or not doing. That is just my self evaluation about habits.
2 1/2 years with no alcohol and now no coffee, perhaps I've gone mad?
perhaps!
God Bless!

disappointment DW says like a miscarriage! Just called TSC and all they got was Sussex and Cornish. Both lovely birds no doubt but not the best egg layers. and one only lays medium eggs. Well will wait till next week or order on line. I'm on the KY thread also and will check out there. I Promise a pic of brooder later today!
Karl it is a female dog to get older! I myself would prefer to go without my coffee than my occasional Irish or Bourbon. Why move to KY if not for the bourbon?
Oes how are things across the pond?

Good morning chicken wranglers,
Rngr looks like affine brood you have there. Nice set up also .Is it in your basement? I used to do peeps in the garage and bottle calves in the basement -garage but I now keep it all in the barn.
It is still too cold for peeps up here, maybe mid April I will have a go of it. Some one send up a flair across the pond for the Oes, I believe she is lost and we must find her.
God Bless!
