Coffee's ready...

Rancher. I wonder how it would work using Vehve's tater tower in milk crates for things like garlic, onions, carrots etc. ?????

I'm not sure if you can angle them outward the same way. But you could use the crates as mini raised beds sort of, and even move them with the sun, placing them a bit in the shade during the hottest months to keep in water or something.

Many things make good raised beds. Right now I have Scarlet Runner beans in a large three gallon black plastic pot. I stuck it in the corner of my garden so they grow up over my rustic arbor. Pole beans grow in less square foot space than bush types do and I prefer them.

I've never had luck with carrots but with a smaller bed like a milk crate I can mix the soil to my likeing.

Quote: About a year ago I saw a good deal on one of those Nespresso machines. When we moved to this house in the fall, I didn't even unpack my regular coffee maker. The coffee tastes great in my opinion, and it's super practical to use. Even makes cappuccinos, you just fill it's container with milk. I often find that you buy some sort of gadgets on impulse, and then they stay unused, but this has certainly been a very often used gadget. The coffee is a bit more costly, but on the other hand I don't end up with half a pan of coffee that's been sitting in the coffee maker for hours. Another magical appliance I bought last year was a robot vacuum cleaner. Little Mr. Neato does his daily round at home, and fills up his container with dog hair every day. And I get to be lazy about vacuuming at home.

Good morning chicken wranglers,
Felix , Mr. Neato sounds handy. My wife had one and it lasted for about 3 years. We are back to old fashioned vacuuming now. ,We do not mind the work as long as the children are getting it done properly!
My wife , son , and I put up hay in the loft last night , It took until 9:30 for us to finish up with all the work. She can toss hay bails with the best of them! work til after sundown and up with the chickens in the morning canning today. What a woman! "{hope she keeps me]!
I keep planning to butcher chicken this week end but something always get in the way! this week end was good but it is raining today, for casted for tomorrow and Sunday. Guess I'll clean the barn. I've got two hogs at the meat processor's today, That should last me for the winter. I would really like to process the hogs myself but that would be another task for me to take care of. heaven knows I've enough on my plate already.
You guys sure got the raised bed thing down to a science , I've got enough area to keep doing a ground garden and it is enough work for me like that. Manure is the only compost I use. We clean the barn in the spring and the cow stalls are full of straw and manure, sounds like compost to me? The ground around the hay ring from winter is usually about 25' in diameter and 10" to 12" thick that gets scraped up and tilled in to the garden bed, enough for the garden I guess. I know it is not as exact as Ya'lls but it works for us.
I was going to dig up the tater beds this weekend also but not in the rain.
Maybe you guys can give me a tip or 2 on tater and onion storage . Let me know!
God Bless!

I saw a picture of a rack to store things dry, might work for the onions. The tater's I'd keep in a bed of dry sand in a root cellar, but I have no experience.

We finally bought an Keurig. In the morning I make a pot but in the evening when we just want one cup of decaf it works better than making a whole pot. No wasted coffee that way. Sometimes those gadgets can be a help.
