Good Morning! I've been keeping an eye on that storm, too, and sending safe, good thoughts their way. I did some crisis intervention work for a week after hurricane Charlie hit Florida, and that was an experience that gave me a whole new appreication for the damage a storm can do, both physically and mentally. One of the worst things was actually the looting and theft that was going on afterward, on top of the fear some of these people had already experienced. That was tough to see.

Busy day today, got a few more girls and a boy signed up for the program. More paperwork, but I've decided my goal is to get as many of the boys in the program as I can to help them understand what their role should be as a father. Some really have no clue at all.

I opened up a hole for the little EE's to go back and forth into the big girl coop last night. The smallest one had a serious panic attack when I put her in the coop, but figured out pretty quickly she could get into her own little section and calmed down. She's the Marans/ Ameraucana mix and she is SO SWEET.

Math Ace - I know what you mean. It was expensive, but in order to study for my licensure exam I took this overnight course just to have two days alone so I could focus and study. I just knew I wouldn't be able to do that at home due to constant interuption and feeling like I had to do this or that around the house. Totally worth the $.

Well, gotta fill out more forms. Have a great chicken day!

Thanks, I have big hopes for this young man. Let me know when somebody on end goes broody and I'll ship you some eggs. Next time that crazy leghorn decides she has the urge - - - just pm me. . . .

I got my roo's girlfriend already picked out. She was returned to the flock this week. She hasn't returned to laying yet, BUT should soon. I am worming everybody and tossing eggs for another 14 days. Then I will be ready to hatch some of her eggs myself. I may have to borrow somebody's incubator, BUT I really would rather do it the el natural way!

Morning People

Coffees on and thinking of what to have for breakfast.

Weather: Mid to upper 80's, chance of showers. Woke up to 70 deg, orange sun, hazy.

Going to the Chatham Fair tonight and looking forward to my yearly allotment of "blooming onion". We usually get 1 and share it between the 2 of us, wash all down with a few beers. It's a nice small fair. We'll get to check out the farm section. We saw the pig races last year, that was different.

Here in NY, deer can be considered a nuisance animal. I know some orchards that would give you the meat for free, you would have to process it. We have been having problems with geese that stay year round and are becoming a nuisance, they are given away seasonally.
We buy our meat on the "hoof". Grass and grain feed, 2.49/lb, allot for hamburger, but cheap for back straps. I barter now for for the geese and venison. I use to enjoy hunting (rabbit, turkey, duck, geese, deer) and it feed the family for quiet a few years.

Take care and enjoy

Kaj

Good Morning! Rise and Shine (and I cackle insanely into my 3rd cup of super strong coffee).

My adult DS is laid up on the couch. I tried to open his pain pill bottle, with a new style of child proof cap (his hands are wrapped up). Now I saw him open this thing last night, but I resorted to sawing off the cap to get to the pills. When DS saw that, he painfully LOL's and says - didn't you hold the little tab on the side down???

(DS will be fine. Unfortunately, Mom was right when she told him to wear gloves when riding the motorcycle. He just has some nice road rash.)

Anyhow, I'm a bit loopy myself from yesterday's stress, and lack of sleep. Yay Coffee! Off to chores!

Good morning chiucken wranglers
FRiday yay. I will host younger brother and wife this weekend for the big family reunion. All the lutzs that are descended from the orginal 3, are invited annually to the area that they helped settle in thew mid 1800's. It is not as large as it used to be. All the war vets are gone now and my fathers generation rapidly diminishing it is nice to savor their company while it is still possible.
Ya'll have a great weekend God bless!

Oooo- I may do that!! Is the BCM roo the only roo you have?

The weather if finally feeling a bit nicer today. Not going to get above 90, and much cooler at night. Loving it. This morning I managed to burn my arm with a hot pop-tart. That was a first. It's got a pretty big red mark and a small blister forming! I'm so graceful.

My BF sent a text saying when he went out to let the chickens out of the coop, the EE babies were in the big girl coop roosting in the top, while three of the big girls had somehow squeezed their big butts through the little opening to the brooder addition and were in a panic trying to get out. What's funny is the only big girl I was worried about doing that was the skinny leghorn, who was the only one NOT in the tiny brooder. I would have liked to see them all squeezing in there. Crazy chickens!!!

Quercus, when armagedon comes I know who to go live with.

Anyway, have a good day chicken folk.
