Afternoon folks. tired today had to watch the help and make sure he did things right. It's been hot and I am just so tired . He broke the loppers the day before yesterday and the shovel yesterday. I can fix them but Heavens to Betsy! I must confess he works hard and is only 14. Still he is a big help. Thank God.

GD went for her WIC thingy today it's took forever. Good garden o' peas! I don't know why DD couldnt' just come in with her doc report. Lord have mercy!

Not enough eggs from the darn birds and I heard on egg pecking in the nest. Hope all five hatch. Due day is tomorrow.

EE is laying but have two more that need to get in gear. One is a little younger than the others. Two were born at the beginning of march.

I think there's some coffee left from this morning.

I have a young speckled sussex roo too. So, I could send you BCM and / or speckled sussex eggs. The speckled sussex are only 3 - 4 months old. So, it will be another 2 - 3 months before I have fertile eggs from them. Just pm me when that leghorn gets broody and I'll ship them to you - - - I'll just charge you actual shipping. I will consider it good practice for me to learn how to ship eggs.

Morning People,
Coffee's ready and it is nice outside. A good morning to be watching the sun rise.

Weather: Mid 70's, clear - Woke up to 62degs and clear.

The kids segregate Aunt and Uncle are coming over for a BBQ tonight. Chicken, potato and mac salads, green beans and maybe some kind of fruit.

chics in the sun: I'm like a ole labrador, I love to eat and eat and eat and eat and eat and eat and eat. The first winter year the better half and I moved in together, all we had was squirrels and potatoes for food. We learn many different ways of preparing those 2.

karl E lutz: Those are good gatherings. Are you into genealogy? Getting some of the stories written down so they can be passed down?

Morning - just managed to grab coffee!

Am a bit behind today. DH and I pulled loads of old veg plants from the back of the garden last night and re-planted with some winter stock. Ha came down this morning to find Dhs old cat has the idea his daddy just made him a BIG cat litter tray! ahhhhhh

I Dont feel like eating the winter crop now-

We managed a quick trip to the shop and got our granddaughter a little piglet outfit! We've started calling her piglet because of the funny noises she makes and the endless bottles she is downing! There are loads of lovely Disney stuff about now which is great as her nursery is all Whinny the Pooh charactors! Dd has her partners parents down this weekend and she isn;t that happy about "the mother". old story I guess mother in law stuff!

Anyhow it means Dh and I get to have the day to ourselves though Dh is not at all well again. He is in constant pain with the back and legs. It really makes him feel very depressed as he is unable to get out and do the things he would like to be at. The heart trouble causes him to be very tired too and he has to invariably go to bed for a few hours every afternoon. This has been the case for the last year. Its hard to watch a man who would work 18hrs straight without batting a eyelid turn into a man who can;t do normal everyday things with out extreme pain. Sometimes I don;t know what to do??? - Well thats my rant i guess

Our chicks are all doing really well and growing like mad in the pen with their mum. I am thinking I will need to put them into the big pen soon? I wonder how that will go? Weve been letting them all out as a group and watching any bother. We have three roo babies and they are starting to fight a bit but the big girls seem to keep them in check. Even our Bertha clobbered one of hers for fighting last night. The only one I have worry about is Omlet again - she is constanly going to sit down and she walks like a member of the Hitler youth! She is still eating and drinking fine but isn;t as big as she might be at this age. She always seems to be weaker and needs to sit and rest and watch the world go buy. I wonder if she will ever be a viable hen? We can;t keep nursing her along. But we love her. I am going to buy more infant vitamins again. The funny walk bothers me a bit though. I check on her a lot but she seems to be ok otherwise.

The other one that bothers me today is Drumstick. - She has been on the moult for months and was bald for ages. She is looking better now and is less tired but she seems to be straining a lot and when I go into the coop at night to put them to bed and we have our little chat and cuddle you can hear her staraining. She did lay a few times this week so maybe its just getting back to that???? I don;t want to lose her but shes been through a lot this year.

Anyhow I am writting a book and the coofee is going cold so am going to run on.

Not a good moring. Went out to check on the BO I got sitting on Del eggs and she squashed the first chick. I'm really upset and disappointed. I know these things happen but it's never fun.

Happy Saturday Morning, peeps!
I'm so sorry, rancher. That's so sad to see. That happened when I was a kid and we had the bantam chickens, and it is probably one of my clearest memories. The chick looked so pitiful.

I've got my coffee and a slow morning planned to enjoy it. Yesterday work was a zoo. Two fights broke out in the building my office is in. In the first one a wild-eyed girl ran into my office, grabbed a stapler off my table, and ran back out to wave it around and scream threats at a group of girls she claims were harrassing and following her. Meanwhile I demanded she tell me why she needed a stapler before she left, but she wouldn't answer so I had to chase her and yell at her to give it back. Other teachers came out to get the situation under control, and I called the security officer. Who I called AGAIN a few hours later when another fight broke out in the classroom across the hall. I'm exauhsted.......

Last night we played shuffleboard at the worlds largest shuffleboard court here in St.Pete -- you can see it in the movie "coocoon". It's such a neat old place with great 20's arcitecture, and over the past few years a neighborhood group started working to restore it after it was being left to fall apart. Now families, cute 20-somethings, and older people all come out on Fridays and play shuffleboard with music playing and white lights everywhere. It's great.

Well, quercus, I'm not sure I could live on squirel, but if that's all there is I won't complain. I tried learning to shoot a shotgun last summer, and I was not very good at it. The woman teaching us had me stand in a really uncomfortable position with my lower back stuck out, so I need to try again without her barking at me to stick my rear out.

Math Ace - the Sussex are definately a breed I want next - they sounds so friendly and sweet. My BF really wants the light ones - he thinks the markings are neat.

Oesdog - just let some weeds grow around the vegtables, and your cat will stay out of the garden like mine does.

Sissy - I didn't know Silkies could come in red?! Are they a dark brown or more of a auburn?

Mornin' folks! We have a cool front rolling in this morning. Nice and breezy, humidity's down a bit.

Set up a bee hive I removed from an old wooden spool, gave them feed and then let out the chickens.

My two rat terriers are on my lap tight now. Once they wake up I'll make some coffee.

My wife is still sleeping, ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ.


What y'all like to put in your coffee? I like lots of milk and honey.

Hi all, I'm back
I know these things happen it's just so upsetting as the last three chicks are roos. Winters comming and I wanted to get a head start so the hens would beging to lay in the spring. It's tireing to have to wait til fall for the newbies to start to lay. I've got a frizzle and two EE's yet to start. The eggs of course will be small for awhile and I'd like to have larger green eggs to impress the customers. I'm sure you all understand.

I'm not to big on Sussex excepted the speckled cuz they look to much like Delawares and some Del look like crosses.

Oesdog: you and yours are still on my heart.

jp33: I used to take milk and sugar then I got married and you know how that goes. I stop with the sugar when DW suggested that there was enough sugar in the donut I had with my coffee there was no need for sugar. Now I just take 1/2 + 1/2 no sugar.

Rancher if I lived closer I would buy a big green/blue egg!
I always wanted a chicken that laid Green/blue eggs as we don;t get them much here. I was thrilled when the eggs I bought on line had some in but only Blue survived and he is a darn Rooooster - no eggs there then!

Just a thought - If I put him to my wee Omlet hen would I get a hen from those eggs that lay blue???? Or is this a lost cause????

Well now I don't know what you've got to lose in trying. Miracles can happen to those that trust the Lord I always say. I know I've experienced more than my fair share. If you don't have a broody you do have an incu don't you?
I've got a Lavender Ameraucana roo I'm going to cross with a lave/ee cross pullet when she's old enough. Not sure what I'll get but life is to short to not take a risk now and then. We have to step out in faith now and again. I'm hopeing for a nice turquiose egg laying hen.
