Glad to hear she's doing okay. That's always scary.

It got a bit chilly last night here too. DH was even cold when he got home from walking the dog this morning. Gotta go now and run DS to school.

Good afternoon chicken wranglers
My weather here is excellent for the next week mid 60's to low 70's. Not bad when last week was hard freeze week.Hope ya'll have a great week.

Oesdog, glad to hear Doty and Mark are doing better. Give her my best. Hope DH does better too. Try to rest as much as possible.

Morning/afternoon people
Coffee's on and tasting good. Either 1 of 3 things are happening, #1 my taste buds have gotten up and left me, #2 I am lucky making coffee lately, or #3 I have been on the road to much lately and drinking to much road gut coffee, but the house coffee has been tasting really really good lately.

Weather: I saw snow north of us yesterday. It look liked a good heavy dusting. Today is suppose to be windy and in the mid 50's. A good day for raking leaves?

Math ace: That's a good picture. They are funny when they are sleeping.

Yard duty are the grandmother in law today..............

I am in the process of bring a #8 cast iron dutch pot back to life. It was given to us a bit ago and last night I had sometime to play with it. A good scrubbing, and a long slow bake with lots of oil. I am looking forward to homemade bake beans, or short ribs, or shepard pie.

Enjoy the day

Well it is sunny here for a change today!!!!!!! Its been terrible gales this last while and very very stormy. The sea came in and breached the sea defence flooding a newly renovated property a few days back! - I love the sea views and have often thought an uninterupted view would be lovely right down on the coast. Then you see things like that and think glad I can see the sea a bit between the new biuld houses and maybe we are better off longterm!!!! I mean 5 mins walk and were on the beach so its no big deal really.

Not that we go much these days with DH being so ill and its quite sad for the dogs. I worry about the Dogs because they are getting a bit badly behaved lately , I can't blame them really. I guess if I had known DH and I were both going to be ill these last three years we wouldn;t have gotten another Old English - and the little Dog well he probably would have been put in the pound. When DH found Gizzy dieing in the road in heavy snow and frost it was Christmas eve so we made a good Christmas for him! The other Dogs in the family shared some gifts etc. - we kept him and phoned and phoned the number on his collor for weeks leaving messages but no one came. We thought that the owners must have gone away for the Christmas and would be upset comming home to find him gone - but no one ever came for him so he stayed. Now its a big worry caring for them as they do need walks and DH and I are not able for days at a time now. - ?????? I was thinking of getting one of those excersize machines for them but its not the same as charging down the beach into the sea is it? Anyhow Murph was rescued from a really bad background and he was hit a lot and all sorts so he does have an aggressive streak. I wouldn;t ever re- home a dog like that to anyone because he needs such a firm hand really to keep that in check. Certainly he can;t go anyplace with kids. I keep him and kids well apart here. Not that he has ever hurt one but the potential in his nature is all that is needed to signal the red light! I am hoping things get better and we can work it all out. The Dogs are so much part of the family. I couldn;t imagine the house without them here.

Despite the sun it is bitter cold and I have two pairs of wooly thick socks on my feet!!! They are still cold!!!!!!! I am going to clean the kitchen and make some pies I think.
I need to do something nice with some of the Veg I have left over. I also have a good load of beef mince hanging about so may go get creative. DH made Porrage this morning and left half the pot for the Chickens!!! now who is soft!!!! Its cold he says - they can have it warmed later!!!! Drumsticks feet are still sore looking. We treat her for scally leg mites though none of the others have any of those simptoms? She may just have 'unfortunate feet?'

Oesdog - going to make more coffee

I get cold just reading your posts, Oesdog. I have the same thoughts about living on the sea here, but then there are the hurricanes and tropical storms....
Maybe you could pay a dog-walking service, or one of the neighbor's kids or someone to take your dogs out for walks.

Still beautiful weather here, 55 this morning, 80 is the predicted high. Sunny.

I think I'm going to check out a chicken show this weekend. I've never been to one. You should come down, Math-Ace - it's in Inverness. Still a bit of a drive for you, I guess. Only about an hour away for me.

I think I've generated enough interest with enough people to start a Tampa Bay chicken club. One of the poeple at my swap suggested it, and this way maybe if I have more help with PR and recruiting chicken vedors/ breeders I will have a better swap next time.

Have a great day, everyone!

Good morning all.

I fell for it. I'm getting chicks! 3 of them. This weekend. That'll bring us up to 6 chickens!

Of course, this means I'll need to:

* set up a brooder in the garage
* add another roost to the chicken coop
* set up new nesting boxes outside the coop.
No rush on any of it except the brooder since the young'uns won't be big enough to go in the coop for at least a month...

I love how cute the chickens are. And they don't talk back like teens (even if they don't listen much better than the teen). And they're actually *useful* in a way the teen isn't. (Can you tell my teen's been driving me a bit crazy? Not that it was a long trip...)

Anyways - hope everyone stays warm and dry today. After I run the teen to school, I've gotta put my nose to the grindstone and get some coding done before my meeting at 13:00.

The weather reports make me nostalgic for Minnesnowta, where I grew up.

I agree on the dog-walking: get a neighbor kid or someone to take the dogs for a walk. It'll be worth in terms of improved behavior. Maybe one of the highschoolers needs to do some volunteer work for a club or school and they can walk your dogs for that!
