Coffee's ready...

I was there last year and there were NO MARANS on display. The marans club had a table set up, but no marans were in cages.

I will be at the Lake City one in January.. .. BURRrrrrr, it was cold, VERY COLD, at the Jan 2010 show.

Well the day is over here - bit earlier than other nights but I am away to bed soon.
The weather here is no fun at all right now. The wind is howlling again and the waves are mad coming over the roads again. They are fun to watch but often hurl big pebbles or even the odd bolder into the side of your car!!!! They tend to close the coast roads down when it gets that way.

Dh is really unwell at the moment and nearly fell today. He is very unsteady on his feet right now. The lad Danny is still up messing about in his room so I will need to be chasing him to bed. He has adult center in the morning. So he could do with a good night sleep.

Got some lovely new glass coffee mugs today for the coffee machine so that should be interesting to investigate?

So anyhow that is that I guess another day gone.

I will ask the kids to remind me of the results when they get home today.

My daughter's project was about which type of oboe reed case best preserves an oboe reed. She compared a sealed and an open hole reed case. She used the reeds for a week and then put them in the cases. The result was the open hole one grew mold. The sealed case was in almost new condition at the end of a few weeks whereas the open holed has mold on the reed by the second day.

My son's project was on how gravity effected the growth of a seed. He planted 4 bean seed in jiffy peat pots. Then he tied them to a wheel that turned constantly. Only two of the seeds had germination. One grew out the top of the pot and the other grew out the side. The control never germinated. I don't know what conclusion he drew from that, but it was interesting to watch.

Good morning/afternoon people,

Coffee's a little weak this morning, but still tasty

Waiting on breakfast, I have some kaiser rolls raisin(sp). So I think a couple of egg & cheese sandwiches are going to be in order for this morning.

Weather: outside-44 & cloudy, today-mid 50's chance of rain, inside-66 and clear.

osedog: sounds like you are having quite the weather there. The worst we have is a stream that floods it's banks. I would imagine if I threw the better half in it, I'd have a wave. Not much, but something.
"The Lamb sounds great ok When can chics and I came round????" When ever you can make it. Do either of you 2 do dishes???

math ace: There is a lot written about gravity and plants. I am partial to plants, being I was a arborist for 20+ years. The old rat prefers sealed cases for her reeds for the same reason.

chics in the sun: "Well, gotta get to a meeting. But then I have a free 15 minute massage! " aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
What kind of meeting is this? I was always thankful when they kept the "old war stories" to a minimal.

Enjoy the day

Good Morning! Hit the ground running this morning. Busy day today.

Quercus - it was a bi-monthly meeting where we go through the lists of the kids that have 1)missed too much school; 2)gotten a lot of referals; 3)are getting bad grades, or 4) have been refered to us by teachers due to concerns about them. It's a long list, given the school I am at....... Then we go through and decide their fate. In two hours yesterday we only got through the seniors. I am a big one for efficiency, too, and often cut people off mid-story/ irrelevant discussion. The massage was quite nice, but I could use a longer one. Maybe I'll ask for one for Christmas.

Oesdog - I hope DH is feeling better today, and the weather improves for you. My Marans is not actually top-chicken, my Barred Rock is (and she is a good boss). The Marans is not protective or bossy, just a bully to the smaller, younger chicks. She was always the worst toward the little EE's, and now my smallest Ameraucana is missing all but one tail feather. I worry about them getting enough to eat, as she is constantly chasing them away from the feeder or the treats. I have two feeders but as soon as she sees them eating she chases them off. I may have to charge her with assault and child abuse, and give her a three-day sentence in the rabbit cage.
Mama Leghorn hasn't been quite as protective/ attentive lately, either.

Math Ace - If the Marans keeps picking on them, I will bring her to the Lake City show and you can pick her up there. Maybe being with some roosters and other Marans closer to her size will fix her behavior problems.

Well, gotta go - phone calls to make, e-mails to send. Have a good one.

Today things have been a bit better weather wise. This morning it was really bad with very high winds and trrential rain. I didn;t let the girls out of the coop at all until near lunchtime. Now it is much calmer and we even had a bit of sun. Though I do believe we are in for more storms again over the next few days.

Anyhow I have we Jess on my lap so can only type with one hand!!!! I honestly don't know how I managed 4 tiny babies at once? This one seems to take up most of my day????

DH is not at all well he never slept last night and so is very tired and sore today.

Oesdog.

Good morning chicken wranglers
I've been busy lately.Hoping for time off soon for deer hunting.and turkey butchering.
I dont think it will happen.I prayed for more business and I'd be nuts to offend God by changing my mind and his blessing. In a time of slow budget better take care of the blessings!
God bless you and your Eggs!

Good morning/afternoon people,

Coffee's on, egg sandwiches.

Weather: outside-34degs, partly cloudy - today - 45deg & sunny, inside - 62 and clear.

osedog: how's the better half doing? Give him our regards.

chics in the sun: so you get a massage after your meetings?

We are going hiking tomorrow to a fire tower. It's one we have done in the past. We are going to do the "fire tower challenge" and do all the towers in the Catskill and Adirondacks. Another day in the shop today. Nothing much exciting is going on here.

Enjoy the day

Good Morning!

Well, my little Ameraucana officially has no tail. I'm upset about it - both because I don't want her to be picked on so much, and because she was feathering in so nicely. She seems healthy and usually hides most of the day from the Marans, but I may still separate them. They can free range most of the weekend and stay away from her, then I'm off all next week to keep an eye on things. I'll also be working on expanding the coop, and we'll see if that helps.

Kaj - We only got the massage today. They were being offered to the whole school. It was done by massage school students that volunteered their time. My schools been in the news so much, it's nice to see the support we are getting from the community to try and turn things around so the state doesn't shut us down. I really am hoping we don't have to work the extra hour next year, too. The bit of extra pay is nice, but I didn't realize what a difference it would make in my day - and my fatigue level.
Yesterday we had the Great American Teach-In, and one of the speakers was a newspaper columnist. He agreed to write an article about what is going well here for a change to work on improving our image. He ended up spending the day interviewing students and teachers, and I'm excited to read his article.

Well, gotta get busy and call down some kids before our week off. Have a good one, folks.
