Coffee's ready...

Evening everyone, hope you are all having a nice day?
I have just had my bedtime cup of tea with a fairy cake that my son made. Today my hubby and i 'did up' an old guinea pig hutch into a coop for my silkie brood! I only have two girls just now but as the coop is finished my friend can give me the boy she has been keeping for me - John Boy the Ruffian, shall post pics soon.
Constance my wee partridge silkie is sitting on 4 eggs, she has only been there for the past 4 days so i am hoping she sticks it out! They are not her eggs but she just wouldn't get out the nesting box so i thought i would give her 4 different eggs.

Math Ace sorry to hear you had to sell your Campervan, i would love one.
Oesdog, glad you are back and nice to hear you had a nice time!

Ha ha!

Today is my DH's birthday! Happy Valentine's Day Birthday! I'm happy to have the day off today to spend with him. We have NOTHING planned, which is fine by me. I think I'll make a large heart-shaped meatloaf covered with red ketchup for supper and a nice birthday cake for him. The kids will get a kick out of that!

Oesdog - thank you for your guidance with my bathroom-hen. She is still hanging in there, and every day I see a little improvement. Her prolapse is shrinking, but it is difficult to put it back in because of the large scab on it. I'm now positive that it's a scab because a portion of it has started to peel off, with healthy looking tissue underneath it. I'm not sure how far I should push the tissue in, either. So far the preparation H has been working very well, and it does seem to soothe her. I will try the honey, but haven't made the switch over yet. I'm just taking it day by day, but it sure seems like a slow recovery period. I know some people would've culled her, but I figured I'd try. We will see how this plays out! This morning she seems quite a bit perkier, and I'm sure one day soon she'll figure out how to jump out of the tote.

I am soooo happy today. The weather is fantastic - I let the dogs out in my nightshirt and it was not freezing! The snow and ice is melting!

I hope everyone has a wonderful Valentine's Day, no matter where you are!

Good Morning. I'm off work today, too. It was a training day, but I needed to take my son to the dentist for his last cavity to be filled. I had planned on taking him to preschool afterward, but he was in too bad a shape. First he threw up on the way there, then afterward he was a crying, drooling basket case. Now he is resting on the couch watching scooby doo, and I am on BYC instead of doing the 10 or so errands and chores I had planned on doing on my day off. Oh well. Maybe I'll throw in the towel on this day being a productive one and just finish reading my mystery novel.

Hope your hen is getting better, chickylaura. It sounds like you're taking great care of her.
What's a fairycake, Tartannik? I think I'll make some tea, too, to enjoy with my book.

Have a good one, folks!

Chics, hope you wee man is feeling better after his dentistry work??
Would you call fairy cakes.....cup cakes?? Small muffin sized cakes with icing and sprinkles on top??

Evening everyone, i am just back from my Valentines dinner night out, it was very nice and wierd for dh and I to be on our own!! It is now midnight and i am off to bed, hope everyone has a nice day!!

Cup cakes are small cup cakes with icing and sprinkles on the top. Fairy cakes are small cup cakes with the top sliced off and cream put in the top then the lid is put back on. A true Fairy cake has the lid cut in half and they are placed back to back on the top to form the shape of Fairy wings. Hope this makes sence!

Good morning people,
Spring showed it's face yesterday, and there are rumors that it will visit us later the week again. Ole man winter is dragging his feet tho, 17 degs and windy this morning.

We are up to 4 - 6 eggs a day now. I think one of the replacement speckles is laying.

Chics: I hope your son is feeling better.

Chicky: Good luck with your hen, and I hope everything works out.

I'm helping "the son I am glad I never had" my nephew, replace his water pump, tank and install a softener. The better half goes to an oral surgeon this Thursday for surgery.

Enjoy the day

Good morning chicken wranglers
Oesdog have ye a recipe for Blarney cakes, St. Patties day is comin up next month and I'd like a bit of a tasty reminder to go with me corned beef and cabbbage.
Kaj we're expieriencing fair weather and I believe it will travel westward soon.
Sissy it was very nice to hear from the foot hills surrounding knoxville once again. If I reccollect rightly it is only a few weeks until the daffodills and then the dogwoods show their trust in mother nature once more, down your way. the rest of us will have to wait a little longer as up here spring lags a couple of weeks behind all y'all down in east Tennessee.
Tartanic, I'm glad you had a nice evening out. We got to entertain the inlaws for valentines, but at least my brotherinlaw had his opportunity to introduce his new girlfriend to the family so it was nice.
Chickylaura I bet your hubby had plans if you were home for the day.Iam anxious for the days of fall, when it is still hot enough to get in the pool ,but the kids are gone at school so wifey and I can slip away from the office for a complete tanning session if you know what I mean.
Have agreat day God Bless!

Hey everyone, hope all is well.

Busy day today. Weather can't make up it's mind. Cold/ warm. No wonder they call it Mother Nature.

She must be going through the change.

Can't decide whether to move my vaca up to Fri and leave early . There is a poultry show in AL this weekend and we're supposed to leave next. Ugh. Decisions, decisions.

It means another $100 to change my flight and then DW will come next week.

It's hard to follow so many threads and this cold just tires me out.

Made a nice strawberry cake for dessert in school with pink frosting and sprinkles. The kids liked it. Nice Valentine treat.

Really stressed waiting for the new hens to grow out so I can get rid of the old girls. Plus to many roos and they aren't old enough to eat. I need more space and better organized space. You know , chicks to pullets, pullets to layers, layers to stew pot. Plus a more breed divided set up.

Ordering seeds for the garden. Anyone want to recommend anything to grow that is good for the long haul. You know winter storage and all that. Easy to can or freeze?

Take care and have fun.

Hello all,

karl, you crack me up!!! We had a nice Valentine's Day, our 16 year old son had his girlfriend over for supper, plus our two daughters (both are basically teenagers) were there as well, so we had "no trip to the pool"! LOL!!!

I have sad news to report about my hen with the prolapse. She definitely was perkier yesterday than she had been for quite awhile. I tried several times to push the prolapse back in, but every time she went to the bathroom it just popped back out. This morning she seemed fine. When I got home today, though, she had started bleeding. She didn't seem in any pain, but the blood was dripping out of her. DH and I had to put her down. It was a difficult decision. Since I'm really a novice at putting chickens down, it didn't go the best. I think I'll have that experience embedded in my head for a long time. However, I'm glad that she isn't suffering any more. I have had chickens die before, and I understand that comes with the territory of owning chickens. But, it's still sad.

Sooo, I wonder how I'll do with my meat birds? I do believe that we will process them - I want to process them. We get our first ever meat birds for processing the first week of March. Then I figure we'll process the last week of April or so. Then, due to arrive June 17 we have ten more Cornish X and 3 TURKEYS. I ordered from Ideal, so I figure they're going to throw in some packing peanut roosters, and those I intend to process. So, my freezer will be full. That's good, especially with three growing kids - including the 16 year old boy!!!

Thanks for listening, I know you will all understand better than anyone else.

Take care!
