Coffee's ready...

Good morning chicken wranglers
Chicks good that you like the rabbits,You could have all of the ones that live on my place.
Rancher nothing is more entertaining than watching chickens chase something around the run, especialy if one catches it and then they all start chasing each other.
WEd and there is only 2 days left of the BFS outage I'm tired and ready for vacation a real one not at disney!
Have a good day God Bless!

Morning every one,

Oesdog, I'm sorry for not acknowledging your trouble , I do hope things are better now.

Chicks- Well the rabbit was there again last evening again so he must have come back for more. As for the drill thing. Take it back and get a Black and Decker 18 volt. I got a circular saw one Christmas and then when my 12 volt drill broke I bought a new B & D 18 volt. They both use the same battery and I now have three batteries and two chargers. Cheaper than buying a new battery set up. I always have two charging while I work. I would prefer a 24 volt but these work for now.

Now I have to tell you what happened. I have a EE that I was told was a roo. It looked like a roo and I was sure was a roo. I was concerned with how am I going to get rid of this roo. I didn't need an EE roo. I have a lavender Amer roo. Well yesterday there he was in the nest box and I'm pretty sure he laid an egg. Not green but an egg just the same. Not to upset anyone but I think he's a transgendered roo. Either that or I'm not going to trust the person who gave him to me anymore. When I first got him she said it was a pullet but then later said "I don't know it looks like a roo". In either case I'm glad he's laying eggs and not crowing.

Have a nice day folks, places to go and people to annoy

Morning People,
I finally cleaned the coops this morning after seeing Countess Dracula. With all the blood she drained, I think I lost a few pounds. I'll just replace it with some booze.

Chicks: I have to agree with Rancher, Black & Decker.

I have 14.4volt and can install 2 1/2" screws for about 2 hours on a battery, but I also drill a pilot hole and countersink. I use the torque setting instead of the speed setting.

This year, it seems there is a explosion of wild life here. Between the rabbits and deer all over the place.

Enjoy the day

Good morning chicken wranglers
Looks like a good day cool 70's to strart out,Hope your day shines through a winner!

Morning folks.

Lots to do. Bought some scales to weigh the currants and make that jam. I may have to go pick more. Ugh! It's a drive. Oh well I want some gooseberries anyhow.

Now about that B & D. My point was that both tools use the same battery and with that if I need another I have one or two or three. Not having to buy "just" the battery saves money. I'm big on cordless and I've seen them used in commercial situations. Though they were DeWalt which is out of my price range. My weed whacker is cordless too. The good thing about cordless is by the time it runs down, I'm ready for a break.

Please pray these Dels start laying. I'm getting really discouraged. Two egg from 21 hens and one of those got smushed. Ugh! These are young birds born in December. I guess the Lord knows what's needed. No ok I know He knows.

Well take care folks , have a nice day

Rancher

rancher 7 to 8 mos isn't that bad What are you feeding them? All I do is red's and leggies for eggs and they take at keast 6 mo.s.

I am trying to do only the PRs and Leghorns for eggs. Of course I have the buzzards who are pets but other than those everything else is up for eggs or meat. I am trying to get Light Sussex to hatch right now for meat birds. My last load of chicks were born in June and didn;t lay until the following February. So you may just have to wait Rancher. I don't know much about Dels. Only have Sussex , Marans PRs now here. Waiting on Leghorn babies any day pips this morning so will see? Light Sussex due to hatch on 19th but don;t hold much hope as they are in DHs incubator and his temp is too low!

Will pray - you may just need to pop a bit of Vasaline round their bum!!

I've only been feeding the grower but switched to layer pellets. The new girls were just starting to lay. Even my older girls were laying on occasion. Now I might get four egg a day. There are feathers everywhere so I know it's molting time. Some look worse than I ever seen them. I've switched them to a 24% grower for a while, but now they are going back to layer.

I do have some good news to tell. I had to go and talk to the assessment board about our property taxes. I was worried if they raised them to what they wanted we would have to sell and move. Our mortgage would have been to much. Well they saw my point and lowered them. It wasn't alot but lower than what the taxes were last time.

Oesdog - if the vaseline joke was for me, I doubt that will help.

Oh well Rancher you may start knitting your poor girls jumpers if they lose anymore feathers. I had a PR last year that was practically naked it was awful and took her a good 4 months to grow all her feathers back! Now sadly it is happening again!!!!!! I noticed big bald patches on her these last few days.

My girls got a full house yesterday all 8 girls that can lay did so that is good here. I usually give ours more vitamins and things like banana and fish for treats when on the molt. Gerty is on eggs so she wont lay and she has taken out her own feathers for her nest so has none on her tummy. Bertha is standing on her bad leg but isn;t much for using it and walking about yet. So not much in the way of eggs with her either.

The chicks are peeping so they are comming I can see Zip lines in the eggs when I lifted our Gerty to check. But don't want to disterb her again as she gets grouchy and pecks my hands.

Rancher glad your Tax worked out for you. It would be sad to have to move especially when the economy is such the property wouldn't fetch the best price at this time. We don't have a mortgage as ours is paid off but the recession here means we wont be selling for a few years as we want to get more land so hope house prices rise before then, so we get a better price for ours. Though then I guess your paying more the other end!

Last year one of our girls turned into a roo! She behaved like a girl did all that squatting stuff and her feathers were girlie at the front and her bum was fat and she had all those soft bum feathers and then one day I looked at her and was shocked to see a feather standing up on her rear end!!!! At this stage she squatted like a girl and then got up and did a roo boy dance??? Very odd indead so we called it the He/She bird! Later it did infact crow and never laid a single darn egg! It was a maran roo boy for sure!!
