Ranger does that heater really keep your waterer thawed? looks funny havin a fish on it.
God Bless!

Mring folks,

Cold here and I turned on the heat.

Ranger keep us posted on how this heater thing works for you. I'm thinking of buying a heater for my birds outdoor buckets. I usually still drag milk jugs to the birds in the winter but the buckets with nipples are my back up if I get lazy or the other waterers freeze.

Everyone else, lots to do yet and miles to go before I sleep.

Good morning people,
Another sunny morning. I feel like we might have a trend here. We have had a puddle on the back part of the lawn since the end of Aug. is finally disappearing. I broke down and lit the stove this morning, 56 degs in the house. I didn't want the furnace to kick on, it's set at 55 degs (the lowest setting).

Karl: My better half has a touch to much of scotch in her (not the whiskey).

Enjoy your day

I'm with ya on the furnace thing. My roommate would prefer it I kept the house somewhere between 80 and 85 year round. I keep telling her to put more clothes on or stay in her room till it warms up.

It's been wonderfully cool here every morning and climbing up into the 70's in the afternoon. Definately teh BEST time of the year.

Morning folks,

I don't care for the cold. I see no sense in being cold. To me it's just foolish and the money saved is just not worth the discomfort. I just turn it on to warm things up and then turn it off. I turned it on again this morning. Of course a baby in the house, other than this baby, is a good excuse. We also have Arthur Ritis living here too and he's another good reason to warm things up.

Que - we have puddles all over the place. I moved a tarp that was on the ground covering a piece of plywood and scared a mole. He had holes all over the place and the mud was tough to navigate. Of course I let him go. I suspect the cats will get him. Anyhow our leach field is a puddle and I just keep throwing more dirt on top. I've dumped about 4 or 5 bags of gravel in there already. It's just not level with the rest of the yard. I really need a small pond dug. Not to deep mind you but a place for the water to go. Either that or ditched to the back so it flows to the creek.

It's cooled off again here to low 80s, high 60s at night. Feels great, but there is rain in the forecast tonight and we are having an octoberfest type party outside this evening. I suppose people will just have to crowd into my little house if it's raining out, but I really hope it doesnt come to that. We worked hard to get the aviary and yard looking nice.

.

Quercus, if it was in the 30s out and the heat wasn't on I think you would find me frozen solid like a Popsicle. My blood is so thin now, I don't know if I could ever survive up north again. Your 'snow caps' are coming back. Can't you keep them there for one year? Just kidding. Ill just be an alert, defensive driver for a few months.

Looks like you had a nice trip, rancher. Those are lovely live oak trees. I've got one a bit smaller at my first house, and it's branches shade that whole house AND the neighbor's house. There is a little one growing in the corner of the house I'm in now, but it will be a long time before it gives us any shade.

Well, time to get to the saturday market for some cheese for the party, apples to make dessert, and maybe a few more plants, including tomatoes to replace the ones the chickens nibbled up. Have a great day, folks!

Anyhow hope all is well with my cyber friends.

Finished the hoop run yesterday and the BR's are on the ground. Poor things haven't felt the earth below there feet since they were hatched. They're nearly laying age. I'm glad that's done but there's always something to do around here.

Yes those trees were something to behold. They had one that was on it's side and great for the kids to climb on. Just massive. Nothing in this area could last long enough to get that big.

I too am supposed to go to the market today after DD gets back with the car.

On another front, I was reading the grocery ad I get e-mailed and noticed the hot dog rolls are called "Bimbo rolls". I thought since there was a post about "lazy" something or other if anyone else had products with stupid names? I had mentioned a place we have here called "Fat Jaimies". Not a good incentive to order pizza is it?

Take care folks and be good,

Rancher

We're on a roll here in this area, 6 nice autumn days of sunshine and warm weather.Last night I had to go out and walk the pond with maisy our lab and she was havin a high time of it.Course she is scared of everything but she puts on a big front! The moon was full and the air was clear, very refreshing to be out in the kind of fall weather that you usually only get read about in novels. My WW was in the house watching desperate housewives so that gave me an hour to burn.Sure hope this holds out for a whileso I can get my pastures all cleaned for the winter slop and mess! I did clean and burn alot of loose hay and cow manure yesterday what a glorius aroma to share bwith the neighours. When I got into my truck this am it reeked of the previous day, just hope I Don't carry it with me everywhere I go!
God Bless!

Morning folks,

Difficult day, our last cat is dieing. He's a manx stray. Vet says this type has back problems and he has a flea allergy. I had intended to have him put down and he does have an appointment this morning but I'm not sure he'll last long. DD is taking him , I just can't do it again. I had to take Merlin. He had a tumor and it's just to hard. I've vowed no more cats. Kids just bring them home and then move out and leave the parents to deal with it. Though I must confess to bringing Stubby home.

On a more positive note the weather is nice and I'm trying to get the grass mowed one last time. It's so wet here you can't mow if it rains. If I can I'll mow it again, I will, but as short as possible.

DD and hers are supposed to move at the end of the month. We gave them a two month extension so they can save a bit more. Plus of course we have Darcy.

SIL has been working long days and that's good. Hopefully he's found a permanent job. Of course needing a roof over his head and his parents are supposed to help them buy a trailer to put on the lot across from them has helped I'm sure. They'll allow the drinking and smoking and all that goes with that, so they won't mind plus they'll of course have Darcy nearby. I'd be a liar to say I'm not upset over that. Honestly I see trouble on the horizon.

I've a broody hen sitting on ten eggs in the coop. She's a Del and only for that I don't want to break her. She started while we were away and DD didn't know what to do so she left her. Lord only knows what I'll do with the chicks but I'll figure out something.

Well I hope everyone is fine and has a good day,

Rancher
