SNOWBIRD it Rancher.... Go stay with you son during the worst 3 months of the year and spend the rest back home...
Chickens will be a problem unless you get the numbers down so that some one wouldn't mind coming out and taking care of them...
A reliable teenager would be a perfect fit.... Hard to find one, but if you do that would be a perfect side job for them.
Rancher independence is a good thing. Having your own space to do the things you love to do. It is hard to do that in someone elses home no matter how well you get on and love them. I would be with Math ace on this one. Go for a few months and get the feel for it. Then you will know for certain. BUT DO NOT GIVE UP YOUR LIFE!!!!!!!! Keep your Chickens and get soemone to tend them while your away. Go for 6-12 weeks and just see how it feels. You have so much going for you right now with all you do have it would be a shame to throw in the towel and just be the little old couple living with the kids. - As for your Pastor I know you want to talk things over with him but - you have to remember in the end it is your life and your choices. He can only advise as he knows you better than we do. But he doesn;t have to live with your life choices YOU DO!!!!!!
What about all your things and Darcy and all your enjoying right now???!!!!!!!!! I know I sound like I am giving you a bit of a kick but you sound like your just a little depressed because Darcy has/had to move out and all of that stuff. Don;t make life changing choices when your feeling down its a knee jurk reaction you may well regret.
Remeber we love and care for you loads
Oesdog
Well now I won't deny feeling down as the cold is coming on. This arthritis can make me feel real bad. I like to go out and when it's cold and damp Lord have mercy, nothing can be done out there. Now I don't really mind Darcy moving cuz she's gotten to that terrible two age early. Not really but she's tearing up the place and mom and dad ain't the neatest. She's really spoiled by everyone since she's so cute and the only show in town. I've got three in Alabama and one in TX. The one in TX would be nine hours away, but he's got Grands in CA that are moving to TX asap. The ones in AL have just us. Their other GP's are not so doting as we are.
Thing is (for those who believe) is DS is not so firm in the Lord and it's hard for us. Him and me. He and mom are ok but not so as the Lord is concerned. DIL is and her and I get on pretty well in that area. She and I like to talk about the Lord and that is a good thing. I might be some help in that area or I might just blow it. The Lord only knows.
Plus Lord knows if anything happened to DW I'd be alone for sure. Can't handle that thought. And women think they have no power.
Women can't live with 'em and can't shoot 'em.
(live with out 'em) Well at least me anyhow .
Anyhow we might be able to buy a small place when DW retires. I just need to know what God wants.
Plus you gotta live with the GK's and Lord only knows that can be a handful , depending on how they turn out. Heaven knows I can't live in a house with teenagers again. Not the teenagers they way they are today.
Oesdog, I knew you'd play devils advocate. Thanks. Though right now it's just thought to go for the winter months.
Math - You do know I'm in NY? We don't have three months of winter. We might have, at best, three months of summer. I've already turned the heat on in the house. Most of the year it's cold and damp and grey out there. My poor chickens get let out less and less. Honestly I don't believe and never have in global warming cuz it sure ain't warmer here. Where I live we hold the record for snowfall. Just google it and you'll see. That means snowblowing sometimes twice a day.
Have I mentioned when I'm in AL one of my favorite things to do is go out and sit in the sun and get warm.
There are other things to make me reconsider too , but I won't go into those right now.
Moving on,
I sold 9 hens and some eggs. Downsizing but wish i didn't have to sell the new layers. All Dels. My best layers summer or winter. I still can't understand why the RIR's from AL are not laying or don't seem to be. Plus I haven't noticed the Lavender Orps in the nest box.
Resting today, though there is always much to do. I just can't finish everything. When I do, I just start something else. I like to keep busy. Just not busy doing the things DW wishes I would, like dishes and laundry and vacuuming.
Getting old is such a curse. Can't wait to never have to get old.
Went into school four times this week and I like that. Made a cake for the kids to have dessert. Just box cake but they like it. Not to hard for me since there are mostly women in there to direct me, so I don't poison anyone. Everyone should volunteer. There's something to be said for doing something for others and not getting paid. Plus I get some company.
Now I'd like to know what ya'all have planned for the winter where you are. Do you close up or slow down on what you do. Can't do much here with the snow. At least outside. Course if I go south there is painting to do. The house needs some new colors. Good garden o' peas. DIL is letting me show her how to paint and she likes it. We did the kitchen last time I went down alone. Like I said her and I get on good. She's a good student.
Well take care,
Rancher
