Cold=no eggs, why?

I have been having some troubles. When it gets colder our chickens stop laying. We have some solar lamps back there now but they are not helping. Any ideas?

How old are the birds? At their second Autumn, most birds shut down, moult and take a month or two off to rest and re-charge.

Well we have chickens as old as 5 years...

It really has more to do with the amount of light their bodies are getting rather than temperature. You might consider switching out for a different light source in the coop.

Well our coop is in the far back corner of our backyard
