cold

What I use to keep their water from freezing here (where its below freezing many months of the year) is a five gallon bucket with the poultry nipples in the bottom and a small stock tank heater. Works great!

Oh....bummer..........Maybe one of us should invent one!!!!

That sounds really good, for my little flock though I can't fit that kind of bucket in their coop without taking away precious space.

Well I have it hanging up so they walk under it to drink, and they also like roosting on it (it has a lid - with a little chunk cut out to let the cord from the stock tank heater come through). Could you hang it outside? I'm going to move mine out there once I finish their run when this cold snap breaks!

The problem is, you still have to plug in the tank heater, and she's not able to run electricity out to her coop...

I don't know how I would hang it outside....I would have to leave the door open , predators might be attracted......It's all a trial and error. For know I think I will just go out every 2 hrs of so with hot water for them....and they seem to love oatmeal too!

Your coop looks good :) I also change out the water once it freezes even though I have electric in my coop. I check on them all the time anyway and anything heated in a room full of hay and shavings isn't something I want to do at this time.
If you get a chance to expand your coop in the summer, let me know and I will send you options for more space with little spending :)
Adding cracked corn to their diet increases body temp for the winter and it's cheap!
Tomorrow is supposed to be crazy cold and most of my igloo insulation has melted because it's 50 here :/ The joys of winter weather ;)

this is kinda off the water question but here in Alabama we are having 0 to -1 wind chill supposed to be a little worse tomorrow. anyway I noticed my girls are wanting to lay down. they choose to me out in the yard and free range. why are they laying down? maybe to warm the legs?? im not sure what o do. I am afraid they are to cold. they aren't used to this kind of weather.
