Color genetics questions with pictures

Yes, blue is often splashed with black as splash is.
You have to select against that to get a nice even blue.
That is also a reason to breed blue to blue and not splash to black.

Ah okay, was not aware of this. it's funny as I have a bunch of pullets(not longtail) running around out of a splash x black(not out of blue lines) and these have even shade of blue all over, not one spot on any of them. Anyways thanks for the tidbit.

I have two new chickens and I don't know what color they are..? They are really golden yellow and have double lacing on their tails, clear neck. Pattern is not black but brown in color, there's no black - or blue - in them at all (althoug one looks quite blue in the photo).

Here's few picks from the breeder.

The breeder says he has had this flock for years and they breed true. In all the years he has had them, he has had few lighter ones and few darker ones, but still basically the same color - and two whites.

Could it be the brown gene, that makes the pattern brown..? What about other genes? Laced and columbia?

Henk69, sure can't believe how much he resembles my light brahma standard sized rooster. Of course, yours is cochin, he is brahma. But then the brahmas were bred from the cochin and malay, so no wonder there are similarities.

This is Ivan, he is 10 months old and boy is he a big, beautiful boy.

Sorry, no pics of chicks. The two chikens I have at home are full grown. I try to get eggs from them while the previous rooster still has some influence and maybe get chicks of the same color, but it takes time at least the 21 days

I've had a similar pattern, though less developed, come out during making buff cuckoo Orpingtons.

I presumed my buffs must have been carrying Pg in the birds with this pattern, & have a dark brown gene missing?

Siimis, he, they are gorgeous!
e^b plus Pg give the multiple lacing

Henk or Tim, could this be choc or dun turning black to brown?

I don't think e^b will do that alone as I have many partridge silkies and I see black (or blue), not brown in them. And I'm thinking that if Db were involved there would be spangling.

Cynthai, your photo of Ivan isn't there.

I really love the color of those chickens siimis. If I was you, I would keep breeding them and sell eggs, or get the breeder to sell eggs on here, lol.
