Color genetics thread.

So with a BLRW (which would be considered "blue") and if hen is considered black then I should get--- 50% blacks chicks and 50% Blue chicks. Males and females in both. And all lacing disappears -they just become solid? Which would be cool. Would love blue Wyandottes!

And with BLRW Splash 100% Blue chicks solid. Again all lacing disappears!!! Which again I would love blue!

Interesting!

Yes, lacing will likely disappear. Some birds may have some gold/red leakage or patterning, but can't really say for sure because that recessive white and extended black can hide quite a lot.

So with my barred rock Roo over Maran hens, will the feathered legs be dominant and they will have feathered legs? I know I will know which ones they are in the hatcher as dark eggs but wondering by sight as they grow as leg bands get lost... Lol

I am not totally familiar with how this forum works yet! But I had made a post about my Lavendar Orps. But don't want to take up more space here on them! Anyway you can check that post for me! I got a really neat reply from one lady that makes some nice colors and unlike the wyandottes here seems there is sex linked colors there! I like the colors that come but not sure I should go with it because the more I read o. Lavendar carrier genes even in new colors seems, they have a gene defect of feathers stopping short or getting stringy looking!

Most will have some level of feathering. One of my Marans crosses has very, very light feathering. One has a line of feathers down the legs, and one looks like it is wearing bell bottoms.

What was the hen and what was the rooster? Not sure I understand restive black gene?

The chicks' mom is splash color (black with 2 copies of blue = splash)
The chick's dad is wheaten color (my avatar picture)

extended black behaves like a jacket. You have no idea what color is under it.
