I tried the chicken calculator........choose the color.....I can't read the German to see if I need to do more
So I have a Blue Wheaton Ameraucana roo........Sire a Golden Duckwing Dam a blue hen

My flock is a color project. If I use my Blue wheaton roo on a perfect Blue Red laced wyandotte hen
and a Splash BRLW hen Will I get some red laced offspring? Or none at all

I know about blue to blue breeding But would the splash hen (double blue gene) produce more blue chicks than the Blue LRW hen?

My blue wheaton roo on Buff Orpington hens.....yield some buffs with blue tails (marked like a
bkue wheaton hen)?

Thanks
Jerry

Jerry,

I am not sure what colors you would end up with but I will comment that I do not think your BW ameraucana cock is of breeder quality. He has way too much black in his hackles and saddle feathers. His color should be more like this:

I haven't been able to figure out how to plug those colors into the calculator either- but I bet you're going to have some really cool EEs! I've read that chicks get their type from the hen- and in the case of the Orps and wyandottes- what a benefit that would be!

I have done a few different crosses with Orp hens- and they did all get mom's shape

I love my ameracuanas- but they just seem too small after having Orps & Cochins for so long

Oh I know he is not breeder quality. I am going for a colorful flock for
eggs and fun. I gave up breeding for show and sale. Just a hobby
now to "see what I can get". Keep what I like and butcher the rest.

I was just gonna suggest the same thing that Ann did. But since she's already mentioned it, I thought I'd take this opportunity to say, "Ann, would you quick showing off that BEE-U-TEE-FULL looking BW cockerel!! I have to go confess my jealousy and envy every time I see him!

Btw, I am having fits with my Ameraucana breeding program. How about you? Just email me privately if you'd like so as to not hijack Jerry's thread.

God Bless,

I don't have many answers , just starting to learn the math on color . I really like your blue rooster , but in my uneducated opinion he is not blue wheaton [ I could be wrong of course ] . I do believe if you use him over the laced hen you will get some laced offspring and with the splash kickiing in on 1 out of 4 there should be some wild and beautiful colors and patterns showing up on their chicks . I hope you post pics of the results .

Edt : I " think " on the BOs you will see some buffs with black showing , probably in a sort of columbian pattern . I don't think it will be the golden buff body .
