Again, I refer to the Ft. Hood case when everyone says that a concealed carry would have stopped this tragedy. In Ft. Hood, 13 people were killed in broad daylight on a military base. Two people returned fire on a gunman without body armor. One of those people, a cop, was seriously injured and disarmed; the second, also a cop, put four shots into Hasan before he stayed down. This was after 3 unarmed people went after him, and two of those died. In a dark theater, with a gunman dressed in black body armor your average CC person would have taken him out? Right, stick with that delusion if it makes you feel better, but it is I think it is a wild fantasy, which people are using to make themselves feel like they would not have been a victim.

He could have walked in with a couple of Roman Candles and killed just as many in the stampede. I know of a nightclub fire,in Rhode Island, I believe.; pyrotechnic stage props, that got out of hand, and dozens died in the evacuation.

I referred to the TRAINED military personnel or TRAINED person. Not just anyone with a CC, there is no actual training required to get one, I know I took the class. I also have taken other classes and plan to take even more, because if I am ever unfortunate enough to have to use the weapon I own I want to hit the right target. I also am planning on taking basic Medical training. In your case they did take the shooter down and prevented him from harming anyone else. I am willing to risk my life to stop a mad man if I have the means to (I am lucky to only have put myself in moderate danger but I am sure I would respond the same in a more serious situation), The men you spoke of were too. I respect each of them and know that they did what they must to prevent further harm. If they had not tried to stop him who knows how many people he might have killed, he might have killed the men who stopped him. (they also make armor piercing ammo, it is legal and there have been enough situations to consider carrying it)

The Dark Knight Rises is a PG-13 movie, not an R rated movie.
The movie rating system is so broken it may as well not matter at all anyhow.

Parents take their kids to midnight shows because they cannot find a babysitter, they don't want to leave the kid at home alone, or the kid really likes the movie. There have been plenty of kid friendly movies that have had midnight release parties and kids get very excited about it.
I don't agree with taking kids to midnight shows, there will be other showtimes, but parents make their own judgement calls on how to raise their kids.

Yes, it was a judgement call of the parent, or maybe just a lifestyle choice. Either way, it ended badly.

The whole thing about being the first to see some movie that you can buy 6 months later in a pawnshop for $2 is way overrated, just for bragging rights.
Kind of like running out to pay an exorbatant price for the newest ugly set of tennis shoes, because some basketball star has an autograph on them.

I am a little lost as to how pointing to a shooting that was ended when people fought back proves fighting back does not save lives?

Some folks need proof... or it simply cannot exist. How many people rob a gun range with thousands of dollars of firearms there? or cops target shooting? Being armed is a proven deterrent to crime but it makes those who are uneducated about how to handle a gun uncomfortable... it is outside their comfort zone or they have enough sense to know the limit to their being able to safely handle/own a weapon.

Going to a midnight showing can be fun, if you are the right age and with friends. I might have gone to this but not because I wanted to brag or even really wanted to see the movie, because I would be going with friends and enjoying the time out with them. For me it is a bit like reliving my youth, for the prices they charge I don't relive my youth very often. Also people dress up and have more fun ate a midnight showing then the other showings. ( I will say it again) no one deserves what happen, however it just is not the place for young children,

Just because they aren't common places of violence does not make them immune to acts of violence. Many shootings at gun ranges are suicides and accidents, but sometimes they are outright homicide.
Theft rarely happens when someone is present to catch the thief. Robbers are generally smart enough to commit the crime when they know the building is vulnerable and that have the least chance of getting caught.

Those are the numbers I got from the first link I got when I typed "guns in thailand" in to google. I have not claimed that the US is more or less dangerous than any other country. You on the other hand seem so sure how much safer Thailand is than the US cause of the gun control. The numbers I see say that is not true so you are welcome to show me where my numbers are wrong.

Though you are right that I may see more danger around me that the average person around me. I spent the first 13 years of my life fighting fires an doing emergency medicine. I have seen more people die than I can remember from more causes than I can remember. I have also saved more lives than I can remember. A few cause I carry a gun, a few cause I keep paper towels in my truck an probably a few cause I sleep dressed. Dose that make me crazy? Maybe... But it has worked for me.

I still can't find charts to match yours. They are general homicide data rather than gun crime data, yes?

I'm so sorry about the fears with which you live and hope that things improve for you with time.

I've been out of town for two weeks, but have kept up with everything. I will stir the pot with a paraphrase from my brother. "What kind of a parent takes their 6 year old kid to a violent R rated movie, at midnight? If they'd been doing the right thing, the kid would have been tucked safely in bed, with the parent watching over him or her.

BTW, Ever heard the phrase, "Nothing good happens after midnight."?

A very good point, though separate from the issue of the massacre.
