Framer has been and gone, his repair looks okay. We started inventory on materials for roof and discovered we have not received enough bundles of shingles to cover the roof. We got 6 bundles, which claim to cover 100 square feet each. The roof is 16' long and each half is (by drawing) 6' 9.5" so nearly 7' - have not actually measured since the roof sheathing is not up yet - but I think we need 3 more bundles, Bob thinks it could turn out to be 4.We also are short on trim but that is far less critical. I could scream. I will bill all extra materials I have to buy back to Guillermo, but now the trick is to find 3 bundles of matching shingles or trade these 6 in for 9 of something else green. Wind was blowing so hard this afternoon we couldn't really do much anyway, so maybe it is a blessing we had the time to check what was there and compare it to what will be needed before we started. This is getting very disheartening.
This further delay means my chicks will outgrow the bins I have them in before I can get them moved into the shed, so I decided to sell some as 2 week old pullet chicks for $6 if anyone is interested. I have 17 each Barred Rock and Buff Orpington, 8 White Leghorns, 6 Araucanas, and 4 Blue Andalusians. They are all vaccinated against Marek's and coccidiosis, eating non-medicated crumble, feathering nicely and growing quickly, as chicks do.
My 5 Silkie chicks are coming along nicely, thank goodness, I look forward to watching them feather out and hoping at least 2 or 3 are pullets. Time will tell. The lavender is the biggest, and the porcelain the smallest, although that one was last to hatch. The lavender was second to last, it's just a big chick.
This is quite the chicken compound you have going on there. It kinda reminds me of the movie chicken run. It is very impressive. Keep up the good work. I still have to come down and see this sometime. It sure does help when you have the land to do this with. I moved from 1/3 of a acre to 5 acres last year. I dont know quite what to do with all of the space now. I am working on it though. I just expanded my run and coop. Now I can a few more chickens. I am finding out about chicken math. 8 hens +5 chicks at the moment. Maybe one more I should be good.We got the netting up; wow, what a job. It is a single piece, so we had to stretch it and fit it, and staple the edges down. We got the ramps built and wood screwed down around the bottom of the fence to assure that chicks can't escape.

Where will you be ordering from? Also, what kind of Marans?I am looking at putting together another order for mid march. I keep debating going for Marans but I would have to charge more for them, or Orphingtons, cheaper but maybe common on the market. What do you guys think? I am still trying to feel out the local chick market.
Also if you are looking at ordering chicks next month and want to add into my order let me know. Nothing is set so...
I think you do have enough shingles based on the info you've given. 16ft x 7 ft = 112 sq ft per side x 2 sides = 224 sq ft. so if each package actually does 100 sq ft, then you'll only need three, maybe four packages if you have to make the roof cap out of shingles.

Quote: You will get there. I think the green will go nicely with what you already have. I always envisioned a barn that is cream colored, with a green roof!!
