They are ALL incredibly adorable!! What breed is this one?
That would be a mutt chick. leghorn roo and barred rock hen, more than likely. Or it could have been my Buff orpington roo. I am thinking leghorn roo though as I have an older one of these in my basement also. Its a pretty bird. It is just starting to get barring on its chest. Almost speckles. All of these are mutts. They sure do have a lot of enegry and not a pasty but in the bunch so far. I think it was beginners luck hatching these out.

I looked at the poult pictures at Cackle's website, they sell both BBBs and Narragansetts, and their pictures of those two poults are very similar. These are a bit darker than the Narragansett poults Tony Albbritton shipped that Wendell, Mayah and Chris have, and I don't know if that means they are BBBs or just darker than Tony's. I plan to sell them, but if I am not successful then I guess they will go to the freezer flock. I've never had Turkeys, though I have gazed longingly at them in the past :) I'll have to do some research this evening when I get home.
How much are you asking for the poults? I have one of the three remaining that is having some issues......... I may be in the market for a couple.

Mutts are awesome.

I miscounted this morning....instead of 6 out, we have 5 out and three working on it. Not the results I was hoping for, but they are additions to the flock.

I'll be putting some hens back into the breeding pen this evening I think. Got to try for more chicks.

It is a farm inovations incubator. I borrowed it from my neighbor. It is a still air with a slight modification. I placed a computer fan right on the grate in the center of the bator. I had it blowing up, so as to circulate the air inside. A fan kit for this model would have worked nicely, but it wasnt my bator and the computer fan I had laying around in an old desktop computer. I used a 9 volt .23 amp charger from an old cordless phone to supply power to it. I didnt think it would work that well until the eggs started hatching like crazy. Pretty much it was redneck engineering. It did work out well though. The hardest part was keeping the humidity correct and the temperature stable once I pulled the fan out on day 18. With the fan in there the temps wew MUCH more stable. Saturday, after the fan removal, I had to watch the temps very carefully. The temp. dropped pretty drastically and I had to adjust it very regularly. My advice would be to have one of each. A forced air one for incubating and a still air for the hatching after day 18. If I buy a bator it will probably be the digital forced air, Hovabator model that came out this year. I may build one though.
Well you did something right. I bet that fan helped tremendously. I've heard other people have a separate bator for the hatching. Once I get my dream bator I'll be using my still air for the hatch.

Still keeping fingers crossed for more. LOVE MUTTS.

Wendell, I hope you have more chicks hatch and I hope very much that you get some fertile eggs out of Abe soon.
Mayah, when does the next set of chicks get to make it out this way? How are the Colloncas doing? I bet they are cute!!!!
