Colorado

This thread is really just a handful of you that are friends. It's not really a Colorado thread. Since I'm not with the 'in crowd', I'm gonna bow out of the CO thread. Good luck with all your babies!

I'm sorry she feels that way, I too am not in the "in" crowd but I do enjoy all your stories. I do not post often I work, play with my chicks chime in once in awhile and relax reading this thread. I do not feel that any of you snub so to speak any one. You are all raising peeps and breeding and I am cheering you all, on the sidelines. Love you all, keep it coming, I am so disappointed whe there is nothing new:)

????   In all my years as a hillbilly, weird outdoorsy kinda tomboyish slightly reclusive mountain dweller, I have never been in the "in crowd".  Interesting take on the thread and I hope you check back in if you need something.  We will probably still be here.

The funny thing is that none of us knew each other until we joined this thread. It's not that this thread is a group of friends, but that people who join this thread tend to become friendly through mutual interests. It is, after all, in the social section.

It's open to anyone, because it never hurts to have friends with like interests and info to share about them.

Sorry you felt 'excluded'. Come back again anytime.

Sorry to see you go, Val

It's true alot of us peeps know each other by name, though I've only met, like, 3. If we weren't neighbors, then I wouldn't be able to post this; There was a definite crowing coming from the coop at roughly 5am. The breeder I got the hatching eggs from just lost her flock of over 300 (I posted a warning about this a few days ago). I called to see if she wanted a roo, which she did, but said her entire operation will be shut down to decontaminate for another month. The crowing was a Buff Orp. The other one who looks suspiciously boyish is multi-colored with feathered feet. They hatched 3/27 and if they get out of hand, like getting any louder any earlier, they have to go. If nobody wants them they can wait a month and breed away. If anyone from the HOA starts snooping, well, I can't say. P

I had a similar reaction. We all got to know one another here, based purely on our common interest in raising chickens/poultry/etc. and the fact we live in CO. I am sorry to hear we have not been welcoming enough. It is unintentional. For many of us this is a busy time of year, and we are not visiting the thread as often as we do in the winter months, so we post a quick update and dash off to the next chore, to work, or to bed. I know my life is insanely busy right now.

It just is what it is. I don't know of a single subscriber or visitor to this thread that thinks of himself or herself as part of any "in" crowd. We are the weirdos who have live chickens and other assorted critters. We are the only ones who understand that about one another. I am unspeakably grateful for all of you.

Ok chicken friends... what do I need if I want to adopt a 2 month old turkey?
I have a huge dog house in my chicken run. Will that be suitable
for her? Will she roost with the chickens? Will she eat chicken food?
Advise please! Wendy

Well this is the first time posting on this thread but I have never felt excluded. This is my first time with chicken and have really enjoyed reading and learning from all of you. My girls are healthy and happy and a lot of that is due to all of the reading I have done here. I feel sure if I have questions they will be answered.

just an update from my little patch of lnd here along fountain creek. I was picking spinach and swiss chard this afternoon. Basically the damaged leaves from the hail last week and placing them in a pile. The chickens noticed what I was doing and came over for a taste. I now know what to do with the hail damaged leaves. Don't compost them just get them close to a chicken and watch it disappear. It was a feeding frenzy. leaves and stems were going everywhere. Every once in a while one of the new smaller hens would make a mad dash out of the center of the group with a leaf in her mouth and about 5 would follow. trying to get her to drop it. I really need to take some videos when I try the chickens out on new things. I do have an overabundance of spinach and swiss chard. 3 rows of chard 4 feet long and 2 rows of spinach the same length. Does anyone need some? My wife planted way to much. It sure is good though. The chooks think so too.

It is always something new with them. Its a good thing there is a fence around the garden bed at the moment.

My neighbor has a couple of turkeys in with his chickens. They seem to get along pretty well. You may have to put them in an enclosure however. My neighbors turkeys like to fly over his six foot fence and come visit me every once and a while. They also like to roost high. That's about the only experience I have had with them so far. I am sure someone here will chime in and answer in a lot more detail the ins and outs.
