Uzi,
I am surprised he did not even say he was sorry. You do have some really cute little chicks to focus on still. I think the M&M twins are coming along quite nicely.

Cochix,
I am not sure but I think the chicks being a week old now they may not imprint on the hen properly to know to run to her for warmth etc.

Danica,
SO what did you order?????? As to what to do with the eggs..... Egg salad, deviled eggs, french toast, pound cake (mine calls for 4 eggs), eggs benedict, potato salad (I always add extra eggs to mine), cookies, breakfast burritos, and do crepes take eggs I cannot recall.
And there is always the giving them to neighbors and coworkers etc.

Suncatcher,
I wish I could get some hatching eggs but my broody cochin has been getting off the nest more and more. The other broody I have has been sitting 2 weeks already so I am hoping she will give up. ( I also already have more chickens than I can keep)

I have a pair of Really high quality Black Breasted Red Old English Game Bantams for sale they are a month and a half old and they are 20$ for the pair could you pm me then We will talk about it

I am getting rather tired of all the rain and mud.

I hope that it holds off on Saturday since that is when the bird swap is in Brighton.

I spread a couple bails of straw in the run to get them feet out of the mud. I got lucky and the feed store had just had a delivery of straw. The grass hay is 12 a bail right now and the straw was only 8. They have been selling out of the straw quickly since everyone is needing to get one critter or another out of the mud.

I hope no one else looses a muck boot in the chicken run.

Have a great day.

I went to craigslist to check and see if Tractor supply had a rain delay update or anything. I found that Loveland is going to be having bird swaps as well.
It is local for me and would be easier on the birds so I will discuss with DH and see what he wants to do .... Brighton or Loveland.
Benefit of Brighton is it is an established swap so should have more people.

I don't mind the rain, but really am over the SNOW! We had two short snow storms blow through today.

Here are a few I am growing out..... I seem to be hatching out more of these MF colors this year, along with frizzles. Yikes, ten in one brooder, and five in the other with more hatching! I really have to stop setting eggs!!!!

I'm ok with the rain and snow. I do wish I could get in the garden and plant, but I am weeding and pulling drip tape. So at least stuff is getting done, slowly, between rain showers.

I went to gather eggs yesterday and I had 5 broodies! They were ALL growling at me and puffed up. I pulled them all off and gave them treats and 3 of them ignored the treats and marched right back into sit on their nests!
I moved them all off the nests last night and put them on their roosts and, they were ALL back in the nests growling at me this morning.....so off to broody jail for all of them!

I am tempted to hatch, but I don't need any more birds. In fact, I need a lot less birds!

Mo,
I am right there with you on wishing I could get the garden planted. I have tomatoes that I do not know how much longer they will stand being in the pots.

Suncatcher,
Very cute chicks there. I love that millie coloring.

LOL chicken math anyone.

Goose math at the moment. 2 in the brooder and 4 hatched out of 15 under my broods goose. Hopefully i have two sold this weekend. Getting the little ones away from broody moma should be a good trick. Snatch and run. I can see it now. Me running across the yard with a gosling in my hand and three geese in hot pursuit. Should be fun.

We recently bought two Rhode Island Reds, and then got excited and bought two Cochens. So the reds are about three weeks older than the baby babies. Unfortunately this morning I woke up to find one of the baby Cochens had passed away. The older ones have been separated from the younger ones, and she didn't look like anything had happened (meaning blood or obvious signs of disease or illness) Anway, I took her out of the baby cage once I found her and now her sister won't stop cheeping looking for her. It's breaking my heart. Should I find her another chick close to her age so she isn't alone? Will she be alright and bond with the older ones once she's big enough and everything will be fine? We're new to raising chicks, and I know things happen, but I feel really guilty about her passing away.
