Colorado

I ordered the "insta-gratification" eggs and the funky assortment from my pet chicken. I will be getting 27 eggs to start with and see how they do in the Bator. This is the first time I've ordered fertilized eggs,so fingers crossed.

And a big HOWDY from up here in Loveland.
Glad to have you aboard.

What breed did you order?? I am insanely curious by nature..... Thanks in advance for indulging me.

Yes cooler ha ha. It was about 110 real feel when we left Kansas. I can handle the dry upper 90's. We are in the Plains as well. About 45 miles to Colorado Springs.
Greetings @PrettyWhitty23
! :frow   :welcome and the Colorado thread! Did you say "cooler?" Well, compared to KS maybe, but it sure seems like it's been pretty danged hot here to me! Course I'm out on the plains a bit and not in the mnts...  Sorry you had to leave your old flock behind, but it's pretty exciting to be starting over by hatching, isn't it? :jumpy   What breed(s) are you gonna be incubating?  Good luck with them!

WOW I looked that up on Mypetchicken. That is some mix. It could be very very interesting indeed.
Are you hoping for any particular breed from them?
Interested in knowing how this turns out. I have some chronic broody hens and may need to let them hatch some out next year.
Tired of watching them just sit and sit and sit for no reason.

Bantam cochins WTH was I thinking. lol

I'm hoping to get a good variety out of them. I had a frizzled bantam coaching and all she wanted to do was hatch eggs. She only wanted her eggs. Finally she hatched 2 of them. They were so cute. I'm hoping to get some more frizzles. I love their look.

I thought I had done something wrong when I tried to give Itty Bitty a couple chicks to raise. She adamantly refused them. I even got ones that would be the same color as chicks she would hatch naturally. NO GO.
I hope she will behave differently if she hatches eggs herself.

Hoping you get the frizzles you are looking for.

I really want some of MPC super blue egg layers, but they only have hatching eggs. Our incubator just fries eggs, anyone know how to fix it? The best thermometer to recalibrate? We want a Brinsea, but can't justify the cost if we aren't selling anything.

Hey kids! I see you've managed to get along without me for so many months. How bout that heat, eh? On that note, the chooks seem to prefer the shade in the run and wont even go out to free range lately. I have a broody sitting on 8 purchased fertile eggs but some times she just gets up and leaves. She must know they'll stay warm enough without her. Any ideas? P.S. its good to be back...

Welcome back and as others have said I bet your hen is fine. I just had my first broody with eggs and she got off the nest a couple times a day at the beginning stages of setting. As the time progressed she became more and more reluctant to leave the eggs for food or anything. She was originally in the main coop with the flock, once she stopped getting off the nest, I moved her and the eggs to a wire dog kennel, with food and water. Good luck, I am soooo happy to have been able to experience a broody hen and her brood.

@intangible04& @PrettyWhitty23 Welcome to the Colorado thread! Sounds like you both have a lot going on, good luck and of course post pics!

Ok, here's where I'm dumb..I want to hatch eggs, but not with my crappy bator. And the last few days, I've been trying to break a broody! So stupid. My brain wouldn't put the two together. She's stubborn though, so I haven't gotten her to quit yet. I'm going to give her a few wooden eggs, and order the super blues. I felt real dumb when I thought of that this morning.

Welcome to all the newbies!!!!! Sounds like a lovely plan on adding more chicks. I was looking for a BCM last spring. Put him up on the BST page here, you never know........

Hope everyone had a great 4ths!!

Hmmmm, not sure I could handle 110!!!!!! Hope those eggs hatch for you, nice selection! WOW! If they don't I do have bantam cochin chicks, frizzle and smooth for sale, and more hatching the end of the month. I also sell hatching eggs on occasion.

We have has some clouds blow in, so has not been to hot these last few days!

Hope your luck there isn't like mine... Had a BA I tried to break and she kept going back, so I put eggs under her and 6 days later she quit on me
